I beat halo 3 on legendary the ending is the ship flys towards the giant mechanical ball. do you think that it could be a covenant home base and the giant ball with the blue light from the halo 4 trailer?
here is the vdeo http://youtu.be/Yygn_vlH5a4 (skip to 7:30) this video belongs to MaG1xx it is not mine
Well Halo 4 beings from the legendary ending of Halo 3. As to it being something covenant i dont think so. It doesnt look like anything covenant it looks more forerunner’ish.

No. The Covenant home base was High Charity(Giant squid like ship from halo 2/3). It is a forerunner planet.
I think it’s pretty much been confirmed that the structure at the end of Halo 3 and in the Halo 4 teaser is some kind of Forerunner structure.
The planet in the Halo 4 teaser is the same planet from the Halo 3 Legendary ending. From the looks of it, it certainly isn’t Covenant. And since Frank O’Connor said it isn’t human, that leaves us with two plausible options; Forerunner or Precursor.
Forerunner is the most plausible explanation. The Precursors had the power to leave the galaxy. It’s unlikely that you could even fight them, unless you had Forerunner or Precursor tech (since the Forerunners destroyed them). I’m thinking that the Forerunners are either allies or hostile. Ok, so that’s the only two options. If they’re allies, I imagine that the Flood will play a major role.
The Ark is located at 262, 144 light years from Milky Way’s galactic centre. I put the Chief somewhere in or near either the Small Magellanic Cloud, the Ursa Minor Dwarf galaxy (and most likely being 7th from farthest and being made of a old stars), the Draco Dwarf galaxy, NGC 2419 , but maybe, just maybe the Sextans Dwarf Sph galaxy or the Sculptor Dwarf may just be home to our new trilogy.

The Forerunners hate us
This is the best the 343 forums have to offer? all of you are going about it wrong.
We know nothing of the precursors thus we aren’t to say they left the galaxy on the contrary it looks like they hardly touched this galaxy seeing how only 1 planet was found with thier ruins.
MB is sending master chief to the forerunners thus it has to be in our galaxy seeing how the forerunners relocated away from the orion arm (encyclopedia). They wouldn’t be able to up and leave the galaxy during the flood war since there are far to many factors that don’t support that, but if they were to leave it would be somewhere very close to the milky way such as the magnellic clouds.
It is best to say they are somwhere in the galaxy with cortana’s line of “it will take years for them to find us” seeing how she has a rough understanding of the galaxy she would know it they were in it or not though not the exact location.
I finished halo 3 on heroic and I got the cutscene where chief floats off to requiem and when I did legendary the same thing happens
