Is it safe to install Halo 3 to my hard drive yet?
Halo 3 uses a caching trick that installs certain game information from the DVD to the 360’s hard drive before you begin playing. Last I heard if you install the game, it still thinks it’s reading the game from the disc and will install the game from the HDD onto itself, making the game run slower than it would from the DVD. I believe all the Halo games after ODST still used this trick, but also allowed for full HDD installs without caching the game onto istelf.
Has there been an update added that will allow me to install Halo 3 without the game caching itself onto the HDD? Could 343i fix this in a future update? I would really like to install this game to decrease load times and maximize my 360’s performance.
You shouldn’t be installing Halo 3 to the hard drive (same for the Halo 3 Mythic disc that comes with Halo 3: ODST). The game will run slower on the hard drive than it will off-disc.
It’s highly unlikely that there will be a patch for this.
I wonder if the downloaded version of the game from Xbox live has the same issue as the hd instal.
What if I install the game to an external flash drive?
Will it install the game to the hard drive or back onto the flash drive?
