Halo 3 & Halo 3: ODST Crashing after S8 Update

When i try to play Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST, The Screen remains Black, the Audio Cuts off and on Task Manager MCC is suspended i also noticed this Error Message: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I tried Validating my Game Files, i tried deleting the Config Folder, i tried Updating my GPU Driver, tried to Redownload Halo 3 and i even contacted the Halo Support, but they did not help me.

This Forum post is my last hope for a fix, because it has to be something on my End because everybody else can Play Halo 3 during Season 8.

Posting for the sake of a bump. I’m experiencing the same issue now.

I saw this Reddit post that suggests redownloading BOTH Halo 3 and ODST. I’m trying that now, will update my post with results.

Update: I had to do a completely fresh install of MCC, but doing that somehow fixed the issue.

I’m getting this for any Halo 3 MP map. Whether it be Custom Games Browser, through Matchmaking or when creating my own Custom Game. Verifying files now. Will try a full redownload if it doesn’t work.

Ive tried a full fresh install, ive tried verifiying files, ive tried exiting my anti virus… whatever 343i did in the S8 update has really screwed the game up. i cant play for longer then 60 seconds without the entire game having a fatal UE4 error. even to cancel out its UE4 engine mucked up ive played other UE4 engine games and they run perfect… why isnt this being acknowledged?? and how long are we going to have to not play the game for? these are the things i wish 343i would answer

to update on myself ive done more testing now and still broken just a note mine is the steam version,
Closed anti virus - didnt work
verifiy files on steam - didnt work
uninstalled and fresh install - didnt work
DDU and fresh graphics drivers to an older driver i knew worked with MCC - didnt work
only option i got left which im doing currently is to install gamepass version which i will update - currently testing

as you can see i havent just got an error and come to complain, ive been constantly trying since yesterday to play MCC can we get some help over here please… the report system they lovingly told me nothing they could do…

Broken for me too only 3/ODST. When loading any map after 5 second timer its gos to a black screen for about 5-10 secconds an crashes to desktop no error message.

Same for me, I load up the game…no problems…go through the menus and customize my character…no issues.
Once I que for a multiplayer match, I get paired with a lobby and the game begins to load the map…then the screen goes black for 5 to 10 seconds and then crashes to my desktop with no error message. Very frustrating

Having the same issue, have tired windowed mode, updated drivers, still a problem, whenever I try to load up a halo 3 game it goes to black screen and then crashes (doesnt give a error for me though). I’m using a nvidia 2060.

Same thing is happening to me. Tried a full reinstall of MCC. Got latest drivers for my 3080ti.

I guess I did what that reddit thread said. I did do a full reinstall earlier but it didnt work. This time I removed the Halo3 and Halo3ODST folder in Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection and verified the files afterwards. It works now!

I just did what you described above, deleted halo 3 and halo odst from Steam\steamapps\common\Halo The Master Chief Collection and then verified the files and it worked! if anyone else comes across this problem and you find yourself here try this. Best of luck spartans.

Doing this fixed it for me as well. Thanks guys!

I’m having the same problem (PC Steam), cuts to black screen and crashes no warning. Tried reinstalling. Looks to at least be a common issue, so it should most likely be seen.

The above method worked in fixing the issues with 3 and odst. To clarify some of the instructions, you must physically remove both halo 3 and halo 3 odst folder in file explorer and verify integrity of halo files through steam. The two games will automatically redownload during the verification process, fixing the issue.
