I just thought about this. On the level “The Covenant”, why do the flood help you reach Truth when he is activating the Halo rings? Don’t the flood want him to do that so everything in the universe will die for them to feast on? If you know the answer, please respond. Thanks!
If the rings are activated, although it is said differently in the game, it will actually kill the Flood as well, as well as the humans.
The terminal from Halo: Anniversary shows this perfectly.
If they let Truth activate the rings, then they would have died.

I thought that it destroyed all sentient life so that the flood can’t feast.

It is said that at first, but in one of the Anniversary terminals, it completely kills the Flood as well.
Yes also, to address the OP’s statement, the Flood likes living things or very recently deceased things, but yes, the Halo’s kill the Flood too.
Well, yes, Technically… as Cortana said in Halo: Combat Evolved… “Halo doesn’t kill the Flood, it kills their Food”. “Food” as in organic beings… that said, the Halos could destroy most of the flood, namely combat forms and anything that is refered to as Organic material. So it kills Flood, but it doesn’t kill The Flood… as in The Spore. Therefore, Halo kills the Organic Material, but the Spore lives and finds it’s way. Or simply dies, in which case, the Flood was able to survive by escaping. Don’t forget that the Flood is an ancient enemy coming from far away; farther than the galaxy border.
Either way, the Flood helped Master Chief and Thel’ Vadam in “The Covenant” level because the Gravemind would starve if Truth activated the rings. You see, the Halos do kill and living beings, but they don’t simply “Die”, they’re pulverized, atomized, you name it. So the flood would be left without any organic material to feast on. Y’catch?

Well that completely destroyed my understanding of the Halo Array.
It destroys all sentient life so that the Flood have no hosts and can not reproduce.
The Flood will then starve to death and every single one will die.
