Or just use your Halo 3 multiplayer disc from ODST…

I’ve put out a “M2AF” call to action, asking everyone on my friend’s list to download and repopulate Halo 3 on October 13th. I also put out this message, so feel free to copy/paste all your friends as well:

M2AF: Regarding Halo 3. There is some DLC that you think about getting. The “Heroic” map pack and the map “Cold Storage” are free. “The Legendary” map pack is 1.99 and the “Mythic” and “Mythic II” map packs are 4.99 each. See you on the battlefield!

You do know it will be free on Oct 16th?

Reading for comprehension my friend. The game itself will be free, but I was referring to DLC. We want to make it easy for everyone to play Match-Making, as well as all those cool games and maps we made and played on.

Heroic and Cold storage are free, and to celebrate Halo 3 being a free download, Microsoft is offering the Mythic and Mythic II map packs as a download for 4.99 each.

PS: I have my multiplayer disc from buying ODST, but not everyone has the content, or wants to buy another game.

OK…I put in Oct 13th by accident…I meant 10/16/2013 - Oops! (blush)

Another message I just sent off (I hope people on my friend’s list don’t think I am spamming them, LOL):

M2AF: If you want all Halo 3 DLC, and another great game, consider buying a copy of Halo 3: ODST. This is a stand-alone game that includes a second disc with Halo 3 multiplayer + all DLC. I saw it on Amazon.com for $13.52 + shipping! (search for “Halo 3: ODST - Xbox 360” in Video games)

It is Microsoft’s policy that DLC with tied achievements cannot be free and has been that way for several years. It doesn’t matter how old the games/DLC are. Only a handful of games are an exception to this (Gears of War 1 and some of Red Dead Redemptions DLC are free although they have tied achievements).

That’s not why he said that. You said you sent a M2AF that told them to repopulate H3 on Oct 13, but the game does not become free until Oct 16.

Any idea as to when this sale for Mythic Map Pack 2 will start? Quite frankly given how old this game is, both Mythic Packs should be at that $2 level that the Legendary Pack is at. (I’m quite sick of how DLC almost never gets price drops).

All of the DLC might as well be free. The game is 6 years old. And all the maps are free anyway with the ODST multiplayer disc.

Microsoft can’t call this a free game when the purchasing of DLC is required.

My guess is the price drop will be at the same time the game is free.

Why can’t they call it free? And the DLC is not “required”, since technically you can still play the game whether you have the DLC or not. The campaign is still playable and 4 playlists are playable without DLC. All the DLC does is allow a premium use of the online services. What did you expect from a free game? And as I said above, its Microsoft’s policy that DLC with tied achievements cannot be free. They wont rewrite their policies just to satisfy the minority.

Multiplayer has always been Halo’s main draw. Fans want the full experience, and they shouldn’t have to purchase DLC for it. Especially since Microsoft is passing this off as a “free” game. Yes, we can play Campaign, but we want the full multiplayer as well. The maps are free with the ODST multiplayer disc anyway, so Microsoft might as well make everything free.

Of course!

Should be standard with Gold anyway.

sigh …

People still complaining about Halo 3 dlc? Over the 6 years I’ve been playing Halo 3 this is the one irrational complaint I’ve seen go on forever. I swear if they cost 1 cent each people would still have a riot over it. They are lowering the prices for the best halo game on the 360 which has the best dlc ever.

It would be a missed opportunity for a new player to not get the dlc as well. I mean "how dare I have to pay for something I demand be free! “I can play multipler sure but not every playlist, such a crime!” “They even lowered the prices! how dare they!”

It’s about $10 total people … unless you are a kid that doesn’t have a job (and shouldn’t be on Halo anyways) this is like pocket change you have in your wallet. Stop buying those premium coffees for one day and you’ll have enough to buy the dlc. It’s not like you are buying new $60 games and xbox ones right and left already …

Halo 3 is FREE

Campaign mode: FREE
Multiplayer: FREE
Forge: FREE
Theater: FREE

Certain playlists in multiplayer: NOT FREE (but for about $10 only they are all your for eternity)

CoD is still selling their 5-6 year old dlc at full price. Be thankful Halo games have lowered theirs so much.

> sigh …

This is a FREE game as a part of the Games for Gold program. The requirement of DLC for the full experience is less than ideal. You’re right; I would still complain if it was just a penny. Because I shouldn’t have to pay at all if Microsoft is trying to pass this off as a free game. The LEAST they could do is make the DLC free while Halo 3 is free.

And we’re really not even complaining about the prices. We want Halo 3’s population to rise again, and we fear that the DLC requirement will discourage potential players.

again, you are complaining over nothing. Thew game is free. I hardly consider a few dlc playlists you can’t hop in make the entire game void and not ‘free’. The dlc playlists have always been a premium service to dlc holders, the way every Halo should be.

For UK players who want to get into Halo 3.

Just bought Halo 3 ODST from Blockbusters (pre owned)
for £4.00 free delivery.

Make all the DLC free while the game’s free!

Then watch as Halo 3 rightfully reclaims its throne…

Viva la Halo 3!

I’m a bit annoyed. I owned and played Halo 3 and ODST when it was out. I traded in my Halo 3 ODST a while back. But since they didn’t let you install the maps. I lost them when I traded it in. I wish when I had bought the ODST game it gave me the maps on the marketplace so I can download them at a later time.

You can only play about 3 out of the 20 or so playlists without DLC.

I’d also like to add that a recent Free with Gold game; Rainbow Six Vegas released it’s DLC for free, Two Map Packs with 3 maps each and some customizations.
