Halo 3 Destroying the Flood.

Wait, I don’t get it. So they prematurely fired the replacement ring for installation 04 on the ark. And this destroyed the flood? Was it an actual Halo ring fire? Or an explosion? If it was the Halo ring fire, wouldn’t that kill everyone near by? How far is the ark anyway? Did it just kill the gravemind? What about other flood out there? I dont understand, does anyone know?

the activation was before completion of the ring, thus destroying it(a la halo 1 with the first halo) and damaging the ark.

It’s really simple. The Flood on the Ark and Installation 04 (II) were destroyed when the Halo exploded which took the Ark with it. The Gravemind’s body is destroyed, but as long as the Timeless One lives, it’s consciousness lives. Other Flood samples still exist, the Flood as a whole is still around.

I’m almost almost sure it was as powerful as a complete ring firing, but with an selfdestruction added…

Maybe the wave didn’t go as fast as the Down, maybe because the premature firing (after all, the parts nearer the control room would fell apart sooner than the others and disconect the generator making them unable to launch a continue beam and a quicklier expansion).

Besides, the Forward Unto Down travels a very big distance before entering the portal, maybe because of a corrupted Slipspace zone due to the effect of the presence of the Ark (like happened with the Halo constructs, causing anomalies inside Slipspace).

So it killed every last Flood cell in the Ark and Halo 04-B.

The Gravemind figured out that the ark was the only place same from the Halo rings, so he moved all flood and himself there. Master Chief then fired the Halo Ring premeturly causing it to “asplode” and severly damage the ark. That is why the portal collapsed because the ark could no longer support it. It aslo killed all flood there, including the Gravemind. There are still flood specimens in stasis on the other Halo rings and maybe other forerunner installations. But they are still in the feral stage or in stasis (the feral stage is when they just attack and have no central intelligence (the gravemind) to coordinate them. So yes there is still flood in the galaxy.

You’re assuming the Timeless One can’t construct another Gravemind to lead the Flood.

Graveminds are created when the flood has enough biomass to build a gravemind. The Timeless One never contructed a Gravemind.

Are you sure he doesn’t have a hand in it? The Gravemind on Delta Halo had to come from somewhere. The urge to create GMs could be a sub-routine of sorts programmed by the Timeless One.

The gravemind at Delta Halo came from when the flood broke out of stasis and consmed the life on the ring to create him. Idk about the speculation of him “subroutining” an urge to create a gravemind but i guess its possible considering what the Forerunners could do with geas. But heres an even greater speculation. What if the Timeless one isnt a precursor and is just saying it to make the Forerunners afraid?

Or did it? O_O

Yes

But perhaps not?

Hmmmmmmm…

Perhaps. It would be an interesting twist, but he doesn’t really have much to gain by lying about his origin. We shall see though. As for the Delta Halo GM, yes, I’m aware of the lax security measures of 2401 Penitent Tangent. However, I have to wonder how it sustained itself for the thousands of years before Halo 2 on animal corpses.

He slept a lot  And I believe flood can go into stasis and survive for very long periods of time without food.

Were not the Flood on Delta Halo constantly fighting the Sentinels though? I thought that is why the Sentinel Wall was built.

The sentinal wall was always there and as long as the gravemind hid then he didnt have to spend energy fighting sentinals.
