Halo 3 Cutscenes and Ultrawides

I’m not entirely sure if this is the exact nature of the bug yet so I am posting in the forums to confirm. Does anyone else with UW and SUW monitors notice certain cut scenes where the background is a flat image it is not wide enough for ultrawide screens?

I do not have a UW/SUW monitor, but I know the cutscene backgrounds in H3 are usually just JPEGs of concept art that Bungie then moved 3D models in front of. The game was made with 16:9 in mind, so they probably didn’t even make a larger image than that. Sadly, you may just have to accept it.

The game uses letterboxes in all of the cutscenes. No matter what aspect ratio you play in they will be there. Funny enough the game played in 16:9, say 1080p. It will letterbox to display a 21:9 image. This game was never intended to play on hardware capable of outputting to a 21:9 aspect ratio so unless 343i piller boxes the scene and zooms in, which sounds like a headache in itself, there will be unintended output occurring when viewing cinematics. Even if there’s these imperfections I prefer the game to use in-game cutscenes rather than prerendered because that means the fidelity can only go up with resolution. I’ve included a video that I captured by the game running in windows mode across my ultrawide and a secondary monitor to get a 32:9 ratio.
