Preparing for Halo 4: Consolidating Halo 3 Wishlist Thread
Although Halo 3 did get a partial consolidation around the time Halo: Reach launched in September 2010, it has not gotten an update since then, and the population continues to drop. Halo 4 will most likely make it even worse.
The question here: what would you like to see done to Halo 3 as a final update to keep it flowing despite lower player numbers.
> Halo 3 only has 14 playlists. I don’t think we can consolidate it any more.
It never got consolidated. Bugnie said they would before Halo Reach came out but never did. There are a lot of dead playlists that could be removed or put together.
I would like to see isolation return to Social slayer and possibly make that playlist dlc required. Would be awesome to see maps like assembly, orbital, and blackout show up often in social slayer for once.

I know but what I mean is that Bungie were a bit more efficient in terms of playlists back then, so the game is already stripped down to it’s core playlists. I could see SWAT and Snipers being added to ranked TS, but that’s about it…

yeah I wouldn’t want snipers and swat put into TS. They are too different to be added to somethign as core as Team Slayer.
I know when halo 3 first came out Snipers was in Team Slayer but I didn’t like that at all. One of bungie’s best changes was removing snipers from team slayer. I hope if they consolidate that is not one of the things they put together.
It would be nice if 343 put back in some fo the cool forge maps that halo 3 had over the course of it’s lifespan. I don’t see why not. It would really spice he game up and give a lot more variety. BTB has a few but there are a ton more I’d love to see added back in.
Maybe Add something like Permanent Double EXP Playlists?
Since I doubt they could update it every week they could just add a permanent playlist that’s for Double EXP… and in there it could be something like Living Dead, Maption Sack, Grifball, and whatever they had originally for Double EXP…
Then add some snipers to Standoff, that map is a BTB map, I think it deserves at least one sniper on the map…

yeah an automated double exp weekend deal that changes each weekend would be epic.
They should remove 7 on the 7th, then apply the loss of all experience every month to Rumble Pit so the 7 on the 7th achievement is still possible. We don’t need two social FFA playlists that are virtually the same.
They could also remove Social Slayer, Social Skirmish and Action Sack, and combine most of the gametypes into a Social Training playlist, like there was in H2, with a higher weighting on pure Slayer and CTF and not including the more obscure Action Sack gametypes. Although Social Slayer is the most popular playlist, it is very similar to Team Slayer.
Team Mythic should also be removed. A 4v4 DLC Slayer could be tried instead due to Team Slayer being DLC free but it is probably best just to leave it out.
The only ones I’m not sure on are Team SWAT, Team Snipers and MLG. They all have lowish populations but wouldn’t really work combined, and are unlike other playlists, so I think they should stay.
That would leave 10 playlists:
Ranked Lone Wolves, Team Slayer, Team Doubles, Team Snipers, Team SWAT, MLG Social Rumble Pit, Social Training, Multi Team, Big Team Battle
with DLC required for all but Lone Wolves, Team Slayer, and Social Training.
With a small player base, Halo 3 should have as few redundant playlists as possible. I don’t have the playlists remaining in Halo 3 memorized, but from what I remember, I would throw out Rumble Pit, SWAT, Snipers, Team Slayer, Team Mythic and Action Sack.
Lone Wolves and Social Slayer were the only two playlists I was able to access when I first played Halo 3 without DLC in 2009, and thus those two playlists are perfect for DLC-free gameplay. Everything else should require DLC, especially since the Halo 3 Mythic disc is available. I found a used copy at Gamestop for under $10, a great bargain.
I’ll probably go into more details later, but the key playlist elimination is the main focus.
Why would you update Halo 3 when you have Halo 4 and Reach out? Halo 3 is 5 years old and soon to be 6. Not to mention 343 will have just thrown out THEIR new title. Why would they update something that isn’t their’s? Or will make less money off of?

Halo 3 didn’t get an update after Reach dropped and despite its age, it still has a population, but it is highly skewed. Social Slayer is probably the most populated with over a thousand (maybe two) players, which is better than the average count for most Reach playlists (not TS or Living Dead).
There are quite a few dead playlists as well as redundant ones in Halo 3, and it would be great to trim off that weight and keep the few playlists thriving. Remember how long Halo 2 was active? Halo 3 will probably be the same. Not to mention that some players are passing the time until 4 comes out on Halo 3 and not Reach. In that letter Frank O’Connor put on the Halo Bulletin, both 3 and Reach would be supported even though Halo 4 would be the primary focus.
Only have core playlist and make all playlist All-DLC required. Its been 5 years so if you dont have the DLC get over it!
Ranked - Lone Wolves, Team Slayer, Team Objective, Team Doubles
Social - Social Slayer, BTB, Social Skirmish, Rumble Pit, Multi Team (or create a true social doubles).
