So I was listening to the Halo 2 soundtrack and I remembered the ending in Halo 3. The focus of the memory was the assault rifle being placed in the rack. And this kinda hit me…
I mean the assault rifle is an iconic weapon in the Halo series. Some could say it’s nearly as iconic as the Masterchief himself. But in that cinematic, the Masterchief put down his rifle, Bungie put down their rifle, the rifle is Halo and Bungie was Masterchief. From the first to the third… They both placed their rifle on the rack. And they did so with a satisfying angle and atmosphere…
But now 343 Industries is continuing the epic and dramatic saga… But what I ask is that the assault rifle placed in the rack be the first Weapon in the game that you see and hold. It would be more connecting from the previous game. And to symbolism, the new assault rifle would represent the Halo franchise and the Masterchief who is 343 Industries will pick it up and bear it.
It’s like the family heirloom. Will 343i continue to bear this heirloom? or will it be ignored?
Please Halo Waypoint community. I really do think this is symbolic to the franchise and I want 343i to hear this message. It is up to you to support this message and have known enough for them to see! It would be a great and satisfying way to start the new trilogy! Please, I need your support!
But wont that assault rifle be old and rusty (or something) after 5 years waiting on the forward unto dawn?
Not sure but on topic yes.
It would be cool if you pick up that old rifle from Halo 3 and then all other rifle’s, after that, are the new ones. (by like unsc or something).
I am attaching meaning to it but when you think of it, Masterchief wouldn’t have kept that floating rifle if he didn’t need it, so it would be the more better thing to have the Masterchief in Halo 4 to have that rifle. But then, it can have symbolism. Literature gives things meaning. Literature is Halo’s story.

This is an amazing concept, I would hold onto that first AR like a fatboy on an icecream pale

There’s no oxygen in space, so there is no possible way iron oxide could form.
Oh well, assuming the gun would be made of iron, of course.

How do the assault rifle gets old and rusty when its in a zero and zero water environment??
> I don’t really care what the Chief holds at the start of campaign.

I do think you should be more keen on campaign but hell dude, you deserve a freggin cookie for that post! ARs in multiplayer can make me derp. They weren’t strong enough to take shields down quick enough and they weren’t strong enough to kill someone as quick as other weapons could.
But as I said, campaign and story is my pivotal point in Halo (It was my childhood and I never played Halo online until 5-6 months after Halo 3’s release in '07. But for you, multiplayer must be your thing, and I respect that. After all, Halo has different appreciators and different aspects, and that’s why it’s a loved game!
I want 343 to breathe new life into the Assault Rifle; reinvigorate it.
It all started with the amazing thing called the MA5B assault rifle. Though more of an SMG than an AR, it fired fast, tore through enemies, and had a lovely deep, throaty sound.
Then it became the SMG. It fit and matched the description better. But they also thought it best to weaken it, deprive it of its power and accuracy to let us use two at once instead. But we all marveled at its new form; its extended capacity for sustained fire.
It came back to us, but different. Changed, not the same. They tried to make it more accurate, but thought a minor increase was more than enough. And weakened, too. No longer did it have its deep magazine, or its blazing speed. Its throaty sound replaced with popcorn.
Another iteration, another disappointment. Weakened yet again, they thought its new accuracy indicator was enough to compensate. And the sound again popcorn, only more defined.
I hope what we get here is a proper weapon, and not a pea shooter. More accurate (like the ODST SMG), more powerful. Enough to compensate for its low magazine capacity and lowered rate of fire.
I hope 343 will be to take a radical step in weapon design, something I feel Bungie was reluctant to do.
the best thing, imo, they could do to the AR is to reforge the H1 AR but with the accuracy of the H3 AR, this would give you a reliably powerful weapon from the start with decent accuracy up to mid range, while the BR will occupy the reliable weapon at mid to long range while neither would be a expected to beat a power weapon at its designed range without luck/skill. also to boost the balance, they are implementing recoil on the BR, if they implement the same level of recoil to the AR as the SMG had in H2 it will take at least some skill to use well, and not just be a face-roll spray gun.
and with the new sound effects they are doing (from what we have seen in the first look vid) what ever they do, it will probably sound like a real weapon.
> it’ll be a -Yoink!- move for them not to put it in…
> I swear it’s like trying to petition for something that is already implemented… Just my opinion.
My focus is the campaign AR. You should start with the one that Masterchief placed in the end of Halo 3. Would definitely be much more connected to the previous game. Everything is exactly the way it was.

I always thought it sounded more like a baby’s rattle and not popcorn.
