Halo 2D

I’m making a 2D platformer game, and I was wondering if I can make it into a 2D platformer, shooter game based on Halo. Right now the only thing that would tie it to Halo would be the art. I probably won’t try to sell it, unless I get permission and I think it’s worth selling.

So if I make it, will I get tackled by lawyers?

As long as you don’t claim to own the IP of Halo itself, attempt to sell, or distribute your game whatsoever, you’ll be fine. If you have any intent on selling it, or distributing it, you’re going to have to have a long talk with Microsoft, and 343 (assuming you can get in touch with them.)

However, I feel obligated to tell you, it’s already been made. It’s called Halo Zero, and it’s been played, and forgotten.

It would be nice to eventually sell and distribute it, but i’m wanting to do this so I can get experience, and have something I can put on my portfolio. I was thinking this might be the best way to eventually get in contact, but if there is a better way, let me know.

I was thinking more of Awesomenauts, without the moba aspect. http://www.awesomenauts.com/Images/Screenshots/08.jpg Just give it a Halo feel with weapons, and maybe a vehicle or two, but i’m not sure how they would work out.

So, i’m going to make the assumption that I can at least start working on the game.

You mean like Halo Zero?

From the picture linked above, it looks like Halo Zero is more like Contra. My game is going to be more like Awesomenauts, where the fighting is more vertical and geared towards multiplayer.
