Halo 2A looks more realistic than halo 5

Does anyone else notice this? The explosions, the environments, the grass, the trees, the weapons, the sky boxes. Halo 2A campaign and multiplayer all around looks more realistic than halo 5. I think this is mainly due to the fact 343 wants to maintain a consistent 60 FPS for halo 5 so graphically they had to make sacrifices.

Slightly different art style but I think Halp 5 looks better. The campaign was also a little too dark in some places.

They’re the same graphics dude.

The view from your window is more realistic than either 2A or 5.

Halo 2 Anniversary has “details” on the texture and Halo 5 is plain.

Difference in art style. 60 FPS had little to do with it.

This. Halo 2A seems to have a darker Art style than H5, this may also be a reason why it’s so beautiful (a bit like reach which looks nice nowadays imo)

So you’re saying that H2A (also this) looks the same as Halo 5?

Not even close.

Personally, I find that the Halo 2 Anniversary campaign looks the best overall. The art style is more realistic and less overdone, and the particles and whatnot are much nicer. Halo 5 doesn’t look bad by any means, but it’s a bit of a letdown after H2A.

There is something going on for sure.

H5- everything has this plastic look to it. I wonder if the art style creates this bland look. Nevertheless, H5 does run at 60fps so any noticeable difference is more a criticism to the art team versus the graphical capabilities available to H5.

H2A- it is lovely to say the least. The art style seems to have more vibrant colors much like the original h3 art design. The details in all of the smaller things are what makes it great, again similar to H3. I guess more love was put into this art design versus the plastic look of H5.

Same graphics, different are style. There is a difference in the looks of style, but both are plastic.

Explain how the graphics are the same…

You say they are both plastic but you understand that to make something look plastic in a game or render is simply a matter of material settings, if you look around have 5 you can see how they have used PBR style rendering on some areas to show the light reflecting on the uneven surface that is a dirty metal panel.

2 games using similar rending techniques isn’t the same graphics it’s just using the same rendering techniques which is all controlled by shaders, materials with multiple texture maps, normal, height, roughness or metallness and specular maps mixed and matched depending or workflow and lighting trickery.

Yh it was the first thing i noticed.
H5 lookes so cartoon whereas h2A actually looks pretty real.

But the themes are different

I’d love to know, as far as I can tell 2A looks solid and vibrant while 5 looks dark and plastic all over. Thoughts?

Maybe in 10 years we’ll get Halo 5 anniversary, then we will have awesome looking game like H2A’s. H2A looks real now, I agree, but time will tell. I recall some people saying the same about Halo 3, Reach, ect.

H2A though, I think it will stick.

Same engine, different graphics, similar art style. H2A looks way more like a cartoon than Halo 5. Halo 5 at least tries to look realistic, H2A was just 343 slapping shine on everything.

It’s really the other way around.

H2A’s campaign looked like garbage because they were so intent on having the original Halo 2 run alongside it at 1080p 60 fps and enhanced lighting and textures. They ended up having something that actually didn’t look too much better from the other end of the toggle. That, and they screwed up the art style in a lot of areas, completely changing the mood.

H2A’s multiplayer looked incredible, and it looks better than Halo 5 in a lot of ways, but not all.

Yes I agree that H2A looked better visually than H5 IMO.

Agreed… H5 is more cartoonish than H2A

Apart from that, does anyone else like the Covenant architecture better in Halo 2A than Halo 5? Especially the Wraith with its butt floating in the air. I know they’re supposed to be “ancient Sangheili designs” but still…I prefer the old Covenant ones.

But the Banished Covenant vehicles…me gusta.
