Halo 2: You were killed by gonorrhea

I was reminiscing recently with old friends who used to come over all the time way back when Halo 2 was our go to game… and System Linking was the cool thing to do. I remember the feeling of excitement as we would choose our 4 man teams and pile into either my own room or my brothers, respectively to get ready for battle.

Some of the best memories I have before the game even started. As this was before any of us had Xbox Live accounts, we would create new usernames for pretty much every System Link get-together. First, it was fun knowing that the other team did not know who was controlling what spartan, which could actually have strategic advantages. But the real reason we did this, because we were middle schoolers after all, was because we thought it was funny as hell when the kill feed would say “You were killed by gonorrgea (insert whatever -Yoink!-, food, animal you choose)”.

What are some of the funny usernames you guys would use?

Ha! That makes me sad I missed that opportunity. We would just use whatever was preloaded.

Dude I can completely relate. When using Original Xbox or 360, you could create the most foul and offensive gamertags that were so much fun to LAN with. We still do that when we LAN to this day, as the mature mid 20-year old adults that we are.

Waypoint (maybe) appropriate tags we’d often use:

“Jesus Christ” (you were killed by Jesus Christ)
“Puddle of A.I.D.S”
“Turds”
“Insert any of our ex-girlfriends names here”
