Hey there, my friends invited me to a Halo 2 “lets play” as something fun to do, so, I dug up my dusty copy of Halo 2 and attempted to play it.
Problem is I realized why I don’t have Halo 2 installed on my PC even from 2 years ago - I’ve found that it won’t install, or rather it refuses to go any further than the blue box: Halo 2 Installation Failure.png
Even when I installed the Halo 2 1.01 patch, ran the installer in compatibility mode (every option I had available), ran my computer in safe mode, started from a clean boot, pretty much nothing in my history of hardware and software maintenance is fixing this issue.
I’ve looked around the internet but not a single source I’ve found has been definite enough so as to explain what has gone wrong and how to fix it. Some people say this, some people say that, so it’s all pretty confusing because there isn’t a single fix that is well explained.
The PC that I’m installing it to (so that those who have a clue about hardware might be able to point something out to me, though I’m pretty sure this is a software issue):
4 cores 8 threads 64 bit i7 PC @ 2.79GHz, 12GB RAM, nVidia GeForce GTX460.
I understand that it was made for Vista, and not for XP (even if there is a patch existing on the internet to make it playable on the XP), but that doesn’t explain why it doesn’t play on Windows 7 seeing as Windows 7 uses pretty much the same OS architecture as Windows Vista, only it’s optimized and rebuilt pretty much from the ground up (hence some people pointing out Windows 7 as Vista 2.0)
If this thread is in the wrong place, I’ll be surprised, but I’ll understand if the moderators move it elsewhere.
Thanks for any help guys.
