Hey all
I played all the Halo games except Halo Wars 2, I enjoyed Halo Wars back then, even its SP campaign was alright. I was very skeptical in getting it but now since I see the price dropping a bit I might get it depending on your feedback.
Is it worth it for the SP campaign alone?
Is it true that you have to throw in more money to have much better advantages?
Depends on who you ask. I think he SP was good, but if you’re going based on that alone, rent it or wait till it’s cheap. You only play for blitz as Breezy said, but it’s not needed. After level 6, which you can easily unlock with challenges and leveling up. Regular game modes aren’t P2P. I find the MP to be better in my opinion. It is more complex than HW1 which I appreciate and unit variety is something I enjoy. For me, HW1 was my first RTS so new mechanics is a great upgrade.
I’d say no, it’s fun but if you can get in to the multiplayer it is addicting
I’d say kinda, I really really like some of the dlc leaders, but there are a few usable leaders in the original 7 you get for free. The only immediate disadvantage to not buying the dlc is that you won’t be familiar with some of the units and strategies that your opponents will be using who do buy the dlc.
I’d say it’s better. I loved HW1 to death and played it from release until release of HW2, but HW2 has so much more variety of units and leader powers that I find it hard to go back to play HW1.
I almost always recommend Halo products in these types of questions, but ‘for me’, this one is a no. I think 343 lost its way with how to much ‘extra’ money with MT on this game. As mentioned above, the MM is NOT pay to win, but you can tell the resources, time and heart went into MT. It’s like Halo 5 (which I do recommend to anyone, btw) BTB looking like I made the maps in forge… Time is being spent on MT instead of heart and soul poured into the product to make the best experience for the users.
I am a Halo achievement hunter and a Halo lore fan, so I dropped $80 day 1 to get HW1 remaster and HW2 (didn’t want spoilers in books, forums and word of mouth). Still have barely dabbled in it outside of beating the campaign. It just didn’t feel nearly as fun or compelling as the first HW to me.
I started out getting HW1 back in the day because I wanted the achievements and I loved RTS games on PC. I got hooked, played well past getting the achievements. Halo Wars 2, to me, just doesn’t have that pull at all. I hope to eventually get into it some more!
The campaign for HW2 was just OK (my take). The cutscenes are amazing though, but you could watch those elsewhere, I guess?
If you might like the multiplayer, I’d def recommend it.
Also, there’s talk that some of the story in HW2 will connect/lead into the Halo 6 story? So, if you’re a lore junky, it might be worth it just for that.
No idea on the singleplayer as I’ve never touched it, not that it a bad thing just shows how good the multiplayer is that if I’m not playing that I’m probably not playing xbox bar Fortnite right now (BR Mode is too good). But even if you buy it for singleplayer and give the multiplayer a go and realise you like it I would say it’s worth it.
Second point no it’s not pay to win, whilst it’s nice to have the DLC leaders they are no better than the other ones for the majority and some of the strongest leaders are base game leaders ex Forge/Cutter/Atriox/Decimus. Third point it’s much better in terms of gameplay and balance so if you prefer a balance game then yes by far.
The single player was fine. I had more fun with it the second time around when I played it on a harder difficulty. The Cut scenes are gorgeous though. I have played about 700 games of multiplayer and I don’t see me stopping anytime soon. For all its faults in balance and UI, I’ve probably had more fun on it and made more friends than any other game. The community is also very friendly and helpful for the most part and will be more than happy to help you get acclimated should you choose to stick with it. I recommend it.

it is an awesome game, and it is great for single players. They listened to feedback and added a mode that is not p2w and doubled the loot drops, so right now is a great time to start leveling up. The community is pretty awesome and helpful. Def on par with hw1. (I can’t speak for the PC version though)
Yup, hundreds of opinions out there, but I’ll tell you the truth.
A campaign short as this isn’t worth the full price for ANY game, and that includes all Halo games.
The best of it’s work is found on Youtube in those GLORIOUS Blur Cinematics that you don’t have to pay for.
However, I love the multiplayer, and everything else.
To your question about throwing out money to get advantages, That is for one mode and one mode only, called Blitz, for most its a mode that nobody plays, and everybody plays.
Released DLC leaders should be balanced by the time you get the game, so don’t worry about that, the bread and butter of this game is the deathmatch, one you will find yourself coming back to every once in while.
This game is made for Deathmatch and it does a pretty damn good job at it!
And I mean come on, who buys a Halo game for just the campaign?
It’s the dealbreaker for everyone including me, because a Halo game has to have a good one, but lets not kid ourselves when the multiplayer will have you for weeks!
If you liked Halo Wars, you will most likely like this one
