ONLY UNSKILLED PEOPLE THAT REALLY CARE ABOUT FRIENDS LOOKING AT THEIR RANK DO NOT LIKE IT.
THE ONLY FLAW THAT HALO 2 HAD WAS PEOPLE BEING ABLE TO MOD AND CHEAT BUT NOW IT WOULD BE A GREAT TIME TO BRING IT BACK. IT WOULD BE THE ONLY GAME OUT THERE THAT SHOWS THE REAL SKILL OF EACH PLAYER. NOT THE EXPERIENCE POINTS THAT REWARDS EVEN FOR BAD PERFORMANCES.
Being able to mod or cheat in a ranking system are two really big flaws. Ones you don’t want in a game that’s based around skill. Unless you like being hax’d unfairly and stuff.
Bringing that back (no changes whatsoever) is about as bad bringing back 1-50 system without improving it.
The ranking system wasn’t the cause for the modders and stand-byers. It was the game itself that was flawed. I agree that the ranking system (before the update) was the most challenging and fun to play. However, a lot of people on here despise the idea of recycled systems. I highly doubt we’ll get an exact replica of the H2 ranking system. The best we can do is hope for something similar.
I CAN REMEMBER GETTING COMPETITIVE AFTER COMPETITIVE MATCHES.
NOW ITS HARD TO HAVE FUN BECAUSE IT IS EITHER TOO EASY TO WIN OR IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN. PEOPLE DONT CARE AND QUIT CUS THEY HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE.
EXPERIENCE POITS IS NOT A REAL RANK PEOPLE DON BRAG, THAT NUMBER ONLY SHOWS EXPERIENCE NOT SKILL.

Players will not be able to mod or cheat as they did back in H2. The system today is much better and more efficient at catching cheaters. Bringing it back with the necessary updates to ban cheaters could make for a wonderful ranking system.

Agreed they need to bring back a system like that i just hope it isnt anything like COD or GOW 3 ranking system and i have a bad feeling it is…

IM HOPING FOR THE SAME SYTEM. I DONT CARE IF THEY INCLUDE EXPERIENCE POINTS. BUT THE RANKED PART WOULD BE THE SAME AS HALO 2.
I DONT CARE IF THEY CALL IT RECYCLED THEY GOT REED OF SOMETHING GOOD, I JUST WHANT IT BACK AND FROM WHAT I SEE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE
To the topic creator - do you see a “Caps Lock” key near the left side of your keyboard? You should try to press that once so that you can use lower case letters too. Variety is interesting sometimes, especially with capitalization. Unless you’re always holding Shift, in which case stop? It makes your keyboard sad.
More on topic, skill based ranking for matchmaking would be good. Don’t care if some number is displayed near your gamertag. If the number is hidden, there isn’t much incentive to manipulate the system.

With the way the OP is shouting, it seems as though he wants the same system without changes and that’s the way i perceived it.
Whatever works, i don’t really mind. An evolution of 2s or 3s system and i’ll be happy.
As long as it works alongside trueskill and doesn’t match players randomly at different skill levels but ones similarly near.

GOW 3 SHOULD NOT EVEN BE CONSIDERED A RANK. IT IS ONLY EXPERIENCE POINTS THAT REWARD EVERYONE FOR PLAYING… AND THE REASON I POSTED THIS IS BECAUSE I HAVE THE SAME FEELING THAT YOU DO AND IM JUST HOPING 343 WILL NOTICE THAT THERE IS A DEMAND FOR THE HALO 2 RANKING SISTEM
Absolutely “Not” Halo 2 ranking system was not the greatest Halo 3 ranking system if anything, and it should have a Credit system like Halo Reach just it should have nothing to do with the ranking system.

No ranking system? At all?
The game has to incentive players to not only continue to play the game (with unlocks, credits, whatever) but to improve and the best way to improve is to have a ranking system that works and is fair. I don’t see how both systems couldn’t co exist.
The progression system determines only unlocks and weapons, not actual skill level (that’s what ranked is for) but if players do not want to play ranked fine, they don’t have to as you can play Spartan OPs and Social so you can earn new stuff.
Halo 3’s system had many flaws but at least it worked. I honestly haven’t seen a ranking system like that since…ever.
> Even with all the modders and boosters Halo 2 had it was still better than any of the others we’ve come across.
Several factors contributed to it’s mass success, other than the hype and because come on, it’s the friggin sequel to Halo CE
It was the only thing players had to online for consoles. There was literally no competition at the time. No COD rehashes or other huge online MP shooters (since it was the first on a console). Nothing to split the player bases as there were no alternatives like we have now in COD, BF 3 etc.
It was second most easiest Halo game to play (inb4 flames and let me explain). Thanks to the massive amount of aim assist, bullet magnetism, and very fast paced gameplay (something that’s been on the decline in recent Halo games) even noobs could pick up and play. This of course, didn’t sit well with the CE crowd and we DID get Halo2sucks.com.
The only reason why it’s skill gap is praised today by the competitive crowd is because of the patch Bungie did to Halo 2 and the button combos. Without these two factors, Halo 2 would remembered quite differently then it is now and not in a positive light either. Still sold like hot cakes regardless
The Master Chief was in the game. Nuff Said.
There was an actual ranking system and despite the cheaters that were rampant at the time, it…worked. Sure, seeing a 50 means its hacker (as it was quite impossible to actually get a legit 50 in 2) and so being 20-30 was good enough and even that took forever. Alas, the system existed and encouraged players to do their best.
