Hey Waypoint. I am here today, asking you guys to share a bit of your halo wisdom with me to answer a few questions I had on the story of Halo 2. I know, I know, I should have posted this in the Halo 2 section, but you and I both know that judging by the views it has, it was never going to be answered. Anyways, on to the questions…

1-How did the covenant find Earth?
I know that the covenant were looking for a forerunner artifact, AKA the Portal, but how did they find Earth in the first place?

2-If the covenant found what they were looking for, why did Regret’s carrier jump into slipspace?

3-How did Regret’s Carrier find Delta Halo?
After the carrier jumped from inside of New Mombasa, (for whatever that reason may be), how did it magically end up right in front of another sacred ring, AKA Delta Halo. I find it hard to beleive it was just another “random” jump.

4-Before 343 Guilty Spark, went and told the covenant stationed on Threshold the REAL purpose of the rings, What was that group of covenant, doing there in the first place?

5- During the level The Oracle from Halo 2, we encounter the flood in the facility where the heretics are. Why would the Forerunners keep something so dangerous like the flood, which are essentially the reason for the creation of the halo array and the destruction of the universe, in a facility like that? I thought all flood research was done on the halo’s.

Anyways guys, please answer these questions! They are really bugging me. Thanks in advance

I don’t remember if the books said anything, but this is the way the games would put it.

Turns out, the Covenant may have already known Earth’s location for quite some time. Only problem was that they didn’t know it was the homeworld of their enemies. That’s why Regret showed up with so few ships. Once he realized he was getting his -Yoink- kicked, Regret left Earth and sought forgiveness from the other Prophets.

The discovery of a second Halo was either by accident (a la the way Keys found Installation 04) or by jumping to a predicted set of coordinates in hesitation, as the Covenant did have their hopes that the idea of other rings existing was true.

I’m not sure what kind of facilities they were, but they did stem from Halo, and probably were these terminals that would separate themselves from the rings for further studies.

1.- Reach was in direct way to the Earth, so they may have taken a path over there, or maybe found some info on Reach.

2 & 3.- Some data was retrieved with the first Halo, and sent on the covenant network. so maybe thats how regret found Delta Halo, and why did it jumped?.. I really dont know WHY him… oh well…

4.-Those covies were gas miners, and you can actuall see it in the 11th Terminal of Halo CEA.

5.-Maybe heretics released them?.. Im not pretty sure how the forerunners mind does work… but… i dont know

  1. Regret’s single carrier fled from the superior firepower of the entire UNSC fleet.

  2. The group of Covenant were most likely posted there to extract resources; “mine” gas and convert it to plasma, I suppose.

  3. The station was close enough to Installation 04 and the Flood Containment Facilities were highly secure.

Ok, so you may have already seen this in the Top forum topic on Bungie.net. Now if not then there is some reading to do, but when you read it there is way more back story than what your looking for, but in this there are answers.

Thanks guys for clearing that up. BTW, I’m the OP just with a different account, I AM THE GOOGLMAN hahahahha. On a more serious note, this is what I got from your answers

1-The covenant obtained the coordinates to Earth while on Reach, but they did’t know it was the human race’s home-world. There next big project was to finish of Reach and move onto Earth to retrieve yet another forerunner artefact. BUT the POA escaped and found a sacred ring. After the installation 04 ordeal, the covenant were pissed, and decided to go retrieve the artefact on Earth, they came in small numbers. Regret found what he was looking for, but needed to lose the UNSC since he was getting his -Yoink- handed to him because of the abundance of UNSC personnel on Earth. He jumped to a set of coordinates that the covenant retrieved from Installation 04. Which led them to Delta halo…RIGHT?

Now the question is, when Regret jumped to Delta Halo, was he planning to go back and activate the artefact that he found?
