So yesterday I bought Halo 2 and when i tried launching it on my 360 slim an error pops up saying that the game couldnt start and to download the game again. The disk doesnt have any scratches and I emptied the HDD drive. Can anyone help?

If the Halo 2 disk is used, I would recommend buying a new one.
It is probably because Halo 2 does not have a working version on the 360. You would need an original XBOX to run Halo 2.

This is not true. Halo 2 is backwards compatible for the Xbox 360.
Sadass92, have you put any other Original Xbox game in, or an Xbox 360 game for that matter, to make sure it isn’t your console?

Just looked it up and it turns out I was wrong. Never knew that the 360 had backwards compatible features. Thank you for correcting me.
Edit: @OP While looking it up it mentioned you need a hard drive. Might be a foolish question to ask but do you have a hard drive?

Did you get it to work? The advice in this thread is all solid.
Xbox 360 HDD’s are cheap anyway - as are flash drives if you have the slim 360.

I havent put any other OG Xbox games in, Halo 2 is the only one I own. All my 360 games work fine though.

Sounds like it could be a disc problem then. I would try another OG Xbox game, or a different copy of Halo 2.
Hi OP, I’m having the same issue right now and was wondering if you were ever able to resolve this? I have a HDD (didn’t at first so got that taken care of).
I called xbox support (poor lady did not seem to understand I am trying to play an original xbox game on my 360 because she kept giving me xbox 1 instructions!) Ultimately they are “investigating” my case and told me to contact the game developers, they sent me to this website and I submitted a ticket- although I had to put wrong answers in the entries because the selection was so limited.
Anyways, I hope you figured it out, any advice is appreciated.
A few things to discuss:
-
Backwards compatibility on the Xbox 360 requires an official Xbox 360 HDD. All of these come with partition on the drive for Original Xbox backwards compatibility.
-
A lot of 3rd party Xbox 360 HDD’s do NOT have this OG Xbox partition on the hard drive. This prevents the Xbox 360 from downloading the emulation profile for Original Xbox Backwards Compatibility.
To OP - it is likely your HDD is a 3rd party drive that lacks the OG Xbox partition. You may need to get another official HDD that has the partition on it.

Thats a lie, I used to play Halo 2 on my 360 all the time!

We already established that I was wrong in previous responses and no I wasn’t lying. I said what I said based on the information I had at the time and then someone informed I was wrong I admitted it.
I just recently experienced this same exact issue. The problem was the disc. The disc was pretty much brand spanking new but my xbox would load the white and green Xbox screen and then throw an error.
Running the 230GB HDD for the Model S Xbox 360
Backwards Compatibility Partition was present.
Tried rolling back updates on Xbox 360 via controller inputs while storage device was selected.
Still got errors. I picked up another copy and it worked just fine. Must have been an issue with how the disc was burned/pressed.
