Hey everyone, I just recently watched this , the Halo 2 Commentary, and I’ll start it off that I was really fascinated with what Jason Jones, Joseph Staten, And Marty O’ Donnell inputs and thoughts into the game. Some things seemed to have the potential to have been an even more amazing game than it already was. It was really cool hearing what they’ve had to cut an their thoughts on the development of the story.
IF Halo 2 Anniversary does happen to come out, would you like some of this included? Even if in a documentary, or put enough energy to add it to the game (which I don’t think is possible.) And what do y’all think of the opportunities there could have been without time constraints, and just think of the development and time put into this great game. I thought it was pretty funny, and well worth it.
Oddly, I have mixed feelings on this. Given enough time Bungie may have screwed things up. To me, it came out perfect because it was rushed. If the game did not have flaws I probably would not be still playing like I do.
I believe they let us roam because they didn’t have enough time to construct all the barriers. They probably would have fixed the superbounces. Maybe the game would have been better but maybe not…we’ll never know. I’m glad it turned out exactly like it did and I hope that is what they bring back.
Actually thinking about what you said, you could be completely right. I loved all the glitches such as super bouncing and being able to reach the top mountain on Delta Halo, and everything else. That’s what made the game so great in my eyes. Maybe they would have fixed all of that and included barriers, etc. This is an amazing game, and trust me it’s my favorite video game to date, but I’ve always wondered what those extra campaign levels and concepts could have been…but hey, if it gave us the game we got, I guess I shouldn’t complain

Truth be known, I’d like to play those levels. I want my cake and I want to eat it too, lol.
Halo 2, where total chaos was proven once again to be perfect order.
When exactly were these commentaries done? And how did this youtube user get a hold of them?
I think about this a lot, actually, and I often wonder what Halo 3 would have been like had Bungie had more time to work on Halo 2. It was said on a Bungie podcast that the original ending to it would have been an epic battle on Earth, possibly discovering the Ark (keep in mind the idea of the Ark back then was indeed that it was stationed on Earth, not outside the galaxy). Marty even said that the voice actors actually recorded this initial ending, and that he still has the audio files locked away tightly in his office.
If 343i does make a Halo 2 HD, I would absolutely love to see them include details of the original ending in vidoc form in bonus content. If they were to add it to the final game, that would just screw up the Halo canon and make Halo 3 moot.
Honestly I have no clue when they produced these commentaries, and I’ve never heard of this in particular before, so I have no clue how the poster got ahold of it lol, but it’s very interesting!
But you’re right, it would totally screw up canon if they included the later levels playable, but I think it would be really cool to see the progress they made through a vidoc, that’s a real good idea CHUTosup. Also didn’t know they went on to recording the final scenes, that’s pretty cool. Hopefully it would hit the light of day sometime. Halo 3 could have been totally different if this game wasn’t rushed, and who knows could have been better or worse, we’ll never know…yet cool to ponder about!
That was an interesting video to watch… I also found another commentary that’s interesting to watch, but it also shows you all the missed potential…
Aww you’re link doesn’t work
but I’d be really interested to watch it, if its about the scenes they cut or reduced! I love to hear their inspirations from their work, it’s all exciting to watch!
Fixed my last post so the link works, be warned it’s a long video! To add to that here’s a whole playlist of Halo 2 content on Bungie’s channel that is very interesting to watch (since you were talking about cut scenes from the story, watch the “Cutting Room Floor Cinematics” video).
Thanks a lot jackboyboy!! Thats was really awesome, I really appreciate it! It really cool to see what they had in mind back then, to plans and evolutions to further games.
