Showcases the relevancy of infinite perfectly.
because of the speedrunners going for that 20k and the leachers that just want some of that viewership from the runners lol
Oh that’s still going on?
your still here?
sadge
Because Halo 2 is the GOTC
I wouldn’t go that far, but Halo 2 is leagues better than Infinite
It wasn’t even loved too much by CE fans… They made a TON of changes from 1 to 2 (GOATnum became a wuss) and Arbiter’s story has mixed opinions. I’ve argued before that Halo 2 is arguably more destructive to the series than Reach was, the reason being that most of Reach’s core mechanics were gutted, whereas a lot of the Halo 2 design’s have remained.
Now I personally love Arby and some of the design decisions, but I would argue that 3 was far far better recieved than Halo 2. Far less changes from one to the other, and it lived up to the hype more or less.
Yes, immediate reception for Halo 2 was lackluster.
Honestly, had it released with the full final script, I am pretty sure people would be less frustrated.
And the CE Magnum was only powerful because a dev made a last-minute change to map load-order code to make it so while loading every map; the damage had a multiplier added to the gun.
Meanwhile H2’s magnum was made even weaker than the base CE magnum before that last minute edit because of the addition of dual wielding. Literally the best strat with the magnum was to dual-wield it with a plasma pistol and noob-combo the enemy.
Unfortunately for Halo 2, the story mode launched with the final third act of missions (like six missions) cut from the game.
Eventually Halo 3 came around, which was a highly edited form of Halo 2’s cut final act.
Because of that cliffhanger, fans were upset somehow.
Personally I view that cliffhanger with excitement as it meant that there was going to be ANOTHER game.
The vast majority of the franchise’s best scenes, scores, and lines of dialogue came from Halo 2.
let us not forget that notorious E3 demo that was scrapped entirely (coming soon to an MCC near you! ) which definitely bummed some fans out.
It is entirely fair to say some of the best moments and dialogue were from Halo 2, the great line from Arbiter (maybe Shipmaster) of “were it so easy” I still recite in certain situations. Yet, you also can’t leave out how absolutely insanely stupid difficult the game was, and no I don’t mean like a fun challenge ala Elden Ring where once you master the game you are a God, I mean insanely busted enemies with BS level design so even from a single player perspective I can absolutely see why people prefer CE over it.
So like its MP is definitely what people loved the most about it, but you had tons of exploits/hackers, you had some of the cool elements from CE disappear (the famous use of grenades to push power weapons is most obvious example) and you went from a more individual focused gameplay loop to tons of teamshot.
I am simply stating that Halo 2 had far too much controversy for it to be given such high praise… Like why doesn’t Halo CE or 3 deserve that moniker? Why is Halo 2 in your mind superior to either of those titles? I love dinosaurs so Arby deserves all the love he’s gotten over the years, but we gotta be real here; Halo 2 made a lot of questionable decisions that the franchise is still reconciling with today. Will we ever get dual weilding back? Playable elites? Single shot vs Burst fire? exploits good or bad for competitive play? map design? Etc.
RuneScape must be the greatest game in existence then
That’s good to know =]
That wasn’t the argument. The argument is public perception and interest in the product. Twitch views do not indicate if people are playing, but it does indicate if people are interested in what is being played.
If people aren’t watching on Twitch, that’s not a good thing.
I mean, you don’t even have to go off of twitch views at this point, just look through the forums, Halo’s mentions on twitter.
It’s pretty easy to figure out.
Honestly, I’m really not surprised.
Halo Infinite just has so many issues It’s just ridiculous. Way too many key features or not in the game even after we were promised they would be. Yeah they might come later but most people won’t care by then. Halo Infinite gameplay is good I feel the art music is well done but the game just has so many issues It is ridiculous. It honestly should have been delayed for who knows how many more years.
I don’t want anyone to be fired or anything but I seriously think new leadership needs to be brought in for Halo. If that means completely cleaning house then so be it. Halo could be so much more than what it is and if I’m a shareholder or someone invested Microsoft that’s what I would be thinking.
Early version of the script which took place mostly on Earth and didn’t see a Halo involved in the narrative.
Ironically, that was from Halo 3.
FUN-FACT !!!
The game was not complete when it released !
Alongside with the entire third act of the campaign having to be cut from the campaign due to time constraints, the enemy A.I. design was also GREATLY broken.
-
Sniper Jackals are a nightmare because their A.I. was not properly tuned.
-
Brutes were a nightmare to deal with when they raged because their flinching programming was bugged, so they wouldn’t stagger or flinch when they dropped their gun and charged at you.
-
Flood Juggernaut had to be cut from the game since they were incomplete.
There were even a few scrapped multiplayer maps that sadly didn’t get finished for DLC work, such as Anchor Point.
I can see why you’d believe that, but for the most part it’s widely overblown.
While viewers do tune in for entertainment, Twitch really isn’t a solid metric to determine popularity of a title, even if other (and far more substantial) statistics corroborate an argument.
My statement was challenging the notion that twitch views determine popularity surrounding a title, which they don’t.
-
Apex Legends averaged 177k players in June with a viewership of 75k on Twitch, (currently) placing it at #6 in the viewership rankings and #4 on Steam.
-
CSGO averaged 587k players in June with a viewership of 71k on Twitch (currently) placing it at #14 in the viewership rankings and #1 on Steam.
Which game is more popular? Which game is more relevant? Which game portrays more interest?
You don’t need Twitch views to argue the fact Halo Infinite has lost relevance and interest. Matchmaking times, latency, Steam stats and Microsoft rankings support this more than viewership metrics ever have and ever will.
There are dozens of games that have more viewers than Infinite. I don’t even think Infinite ever breaks the top 100 on Steam.
For other reasons. I was a Halo CE player (Combat Evolved + Custom Edition). I was disappointed by the removal of fall damage and health kits, but overall, Halo 2 was an improvement and gameplay-wise it was the better multiplayer game. Well… could have easily been, to be more precise. The campaign was amazing too.
Back then I couldn’t wait to finally be able to play it on PC and move from Halo CE to Halo 2 multiplayer with dual wielding mayhem, better graphics, more maps (plus a map editor) and more weapons and vehicles by default. I never did. Why? Microsoft. That’s why.
Halo CE was a lightweight fast game with minimal menus and total freedom, plus many of us had it as a portable installation which was a bonus. You’d start it up really quick and dive into a game within seconds, choosing a server from a wonderful detailed buffet of game servers. The browser (a.k.a. “Internet Lobby”) had it all.
Halo 2 Vista, on the other hand, was a bad port from Xbox, it was very slow, you needed a Microsoft account (Windows Live
) in order to play it and have achievements, and you even had to navigate to your Web browser to a confusing profile experience in order to manage your nickname etc. whereas in Halo CE you could easily have multiple profiles with whatever nickname you wanted - as long as it were within the character limit. Moreover, the game browser was a huge downgrade.
But… here’s the cherry on top of the take… read below… and please correct me if I’m wrong because I don’t quite remember anymore… since I chose to forget about what Microsoft had decided about that game and how they ruined it… so… Xbox Live Gold accounts!!!
Going LIVE with Halo 2 for Windows Vista:
https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2007/05/22/going-live-with-halo-2-for-windows-vista/
“You will need an Xbox Live Gold account to enable multiplayer achievements, LIVE game hosting, and in-game chat.”
That was some nice bs wasn’t it?
I actually enjoy the Arbiter even more then the Chief. He has way more personality to him then John does. But I do understand that John was built to be a soldier from the ground up, to follow duty and to surpress a lot of emotions from the stories he was about. To be the best soldier there could be.
To be fair, even the Bungie devs refer to Halo 2 as being The Arbiter’s story.
We already had the story of Master Chief saving Humanity in Halo CE.
Halo 2 was more of the story of how Chief’s actions would lead to one of the most devoted of the Covenant to rebel after uncovering the truth that Humans were Forerunners.
(a detail that Frank O’Connor decided to r/whoosh)
Man, if only we got the full story of the game and not have to cut the last few missions due to time constraints and deadlines.
Just look at what the final story-boards showcased (sadly they are a bit out of order here-and-there, but if you played Halo 2; you can piece the puzzle together pretty easily.)
