So about a month ago, i got halo 2 for vista. it played fine except now, whenever i try to sign in, it comes up with an error saying that “The profile could not be signed in in to LIVE. There may be a network problem or the Windows Live ID service may not be available.”
I doubt it has anything to do with my internet, as i can use my browser just fine, but I just want to know if anyone else has got this message and if there is an update or something i need to get to fix this.
I also don’t want to uninstall because i’m afraid that the serial code only works once, can someone clarify this?
I got a legit copy that was still wrapped up.
Please help
I’m not entirely sure what the error you are getting would be caused by, but I do know that from personal experience the serial code works 3 times. After that you have to call MS support every time you install the game.
I remember having much trouble getting Halo 2 for Vista working under Windows 7. Here’s the guide I used: http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/252972-how-get-halo-2-working-under-windows-7-a.html
I doubt that it’s any easier on Windows 8. Good luck!

thanks for the help
So my best bet is re installing, right?
JESUS I’M AN IDIOT! I UNINSTALLED GAMES FOR WINDOWS MARKETPLACE!
games for windows live is a necessary software needed to play halo 2
I couldn’t get it to install on windows 8.1 x64, halo 1 installs fine though…lol. must have something to do with the stupid vista compatibility.
i got it working by installing in vista in vmware and then backing up the reg entry’s and then copying the folder & all other files / folders relating to the game to the host os and importing the reg entry’s.
Had a problem downloading games for windows live on my windows 8.1 laptop, had to install it multiple times for it to get halo 2 to work properly as I was getting login errors due to games for windows live being no longer supported, it worked after like 20 times
