It’s a good question, I have to ask what the next step on 343s part is. Be there some kind of action to kill off legacy Windows gaming efforts within Microsoft? Given all that’s happened within the last 6-7months.
With so few players left on Halo 2 (not surprising with a bad port) it does make sense to close the servers.
What I can’t understand is why they don’t have a new game on PC to replace it with. Halo 1 PC is fantastic for multiplayer, but it looks dated, there are plenty of game mechanics that are missing as compared to the recent Halo titles. There needs to be another Halo PC release.
Wheres halo 3 , reach or even 4 for PC? better yet why are those pieces of **** games halo 3& Reach still online on the Xbox, why don’t they close those things down. It angers me that 343 has the nerve to shut down a game that was relatively successful when they cant even create a fully working version of Halo 4. There are dedicated Halo 2 players like myself that play Halo 2 more than any other halo game on the vista platform and XBC.
That’s a very easy question. Halo 2 multiplayer didn’t die on April 15th 2010, but it will die on February 15th. I would like at least to keep it for 2 more months and make it a 3-year anniversary. I am very sad this comes to an end. I would have liked this game to never shut down because this makes most of its achievements unavailable. Even if the population was only 5 a day, is it so hard to keep just one server running? Just like having only one playlist. Halo 2 PC should remain as a monument to the best Xbox game ever, a testament to its legacy. Even if people come back years later, they should find a game at least playable and remember about the times of Halo 2 on Xbox, if not on PC. The regret I have is that no matter what we do and what we write the servers will still be shut down. The game will forever live in the hearts of millions of gamers, if not in the heart of 343(I don’t really think they care).

Whenever I was online on Halo 2 PC, there where a few servers that were almost always full.
Though couldn’t someone just create a program similar to Xbox Connect for this game?
Think about it.
If there were only 20 people online a day…
I guarantee not all of them will go through the effort of using external programs to play online.
The population will be 10 if anything…
With that being said however.
Im really upset they are closing them.

Considering I just played for about an hour with a full lobby on the Xbox with XBConnect, I’m not so sure. Though what would be better for Halo 2 PC would be a way to transfer the server list to a 3rd party.
343/MS let people keep their own servers (which they pay for) online. It’s not like you are paying for them.
By all means…RELEASE THE SOURCE, CODE or what ever it is you need to release to let the people that pay for and run dedicated servers to keep the game alive… If yall (343) dont want to keep it up then by all means let the people…
how can they even shut down the servers anyway, most of them are hosted by the dedicated server program that came with the game, so there not costing ANYTHING to run, the only thing there hosting is the server list which simply finds active servers and shows them in a list, it probably costs less to run than a single dedicated server.
its sad I was told it was 4 servers in a room that makes that list and its seperate from the games from windows live servers to bad they wont just combine the 2 then it would be around as long as gflw

It is sad that HALO2 Vista will end soon.But considering I ve play this game for over 8 years, replace my PC 3 times , we are very lucky this lasted this long.Most others games server dont even last a year…I really saddened by Microsoft to end this amazing game. I was hoping they would have replace with an updated version of Halo, such as Halo war, Halo 3 , Halo 4 for PC. I have 3 sons that prefer to play on theirs XBOX 360…that s a choice to each and everyone of us , so if I calculated this fact 3 out of 4 play on the XBOX 360…so it seem to me my 1 vote doesnt count. But I m the one paying for theirs gold account,whoups…should my 1 vote count for something.I willing to pay to keep the servers and even service for this game like many others players in this forum. I realized that for years we have played this game for free unless we got the gold account, everything has a price .Instead of fighting them on a note they will surelly win anyway…why not offer to pay to keep it up.

343, you only stand to hurt the Halo community further by cutting access to the H2 online servers; forcing people who have played that game since 2004 to give up how they have fun.
I grew up on Halo 2, and Halo was good to me. We spent many a hour together in dimly-lit rooms, huddled together in front of a TV…
Romantic date allegory aside, Halo 2 was one of the most defining moments that I remember of my childhood. Please, don’t cancel the servers. It’s incredible fun to relive by playing online, and you’re not going to take this just away from me, but a lot of other people as well.

They can pry Halo: CE PC from my cold dead hands but they don’t even have control of that game so jokes on them.
