In the original Halo 2 the license for Breaking Benjamin’s - Blow me Away was used for the end of the level Gravemind. But when Microsoft (343i) had remastered the game for the Master Chief Collection, the license was not renewed. My first time playing through this level with the new graphics was amazing, but i feel it lost it’s touch when Blow Me Away had not played when I expected. I’m not sure how much the license would cost, but I would like to petition the community to raise however much 343i would need, and in turn petition 343i to bring it back.
If they wanted to, Microsoft has more than enough money to renew the license to use ‘Blow me Away’ by Breaking Benjamin. Though, it depends on what Breaking Benjamin wants and what their record label wants too.
This is also probably one of the reasons why Halo 2 is not backwards compatible yet since Microsoft would be looking to sell Halo 2 on the Xbox One store, which would likely cause licensing issues. They could change it like they did with MCC but who knows. If I recall correctly, Halo 2 Vista (PC) still retained the song.
To be honest, I completely forgot about the song being removed in MCC. During my first playthrough I noticed it but over the years it slipped my mind. It would be interesting to see if the above speculation could be a factor as to why Halo 2 is not backwards compatible yet.
