Halo 2 blastacular map pack

I would like to play all of the original maps from halo 2 including the blastacular map pack (desolation and tombstone). When these were originally released, I paid and downloaded them on my original Xbox and my Xbox 360. I went on there today and see them on my hard drive but there aren’t loading up in my map list, not even the map pack that was on the disc.

I have the map pack that came on the disc so this shouldn’t be a problem to get them on there again but the ones released after the disc were only available for download. Like I said before they are appearing on my hard drive but it doesn’t load up.

Does anyone one know how to get these maps to load up on my 360?

I think I figured out the problem. I no longer have the 1.5 title update or any title update registering when the game is turned on. Obviously when I downloaded the maps back in 2007 it also downloaded the title updates but since that time I was using my Xbox 360 for other games and I specifically remember I had to contact Xbox support for an issue where they told me I had to clear the cache which I did under their direction. It solved my problem for the specific game at the time but now reading about clearing the cache it would have removed my title update for halo 2.

Is is there anyway to get the halo 2 title update without modding my Xbox 360?

It it doesn’t seem right that I paid for this way back when and now it doesn’t work because I was advised by Xbox support to clear my cache.

I know the map pack disc enabled auto update functionality, but since those servers that sent updates are long gone, the only legit way I would think would be to buy a 360 or 360 hard drive that has Halo 2 v.1.5 and add it to your current hardware. However there might be someway of just getting a hold of the patch and installing it to your xbox.

Thanks for the thoughts. I did a bit more research and pretty much came to the same conclusion but I was also researching how to transfer data from my original Xbox to Xbox 360. Since I still have my original Xbox (but it’s in storage) I think there’s a way to copy that data from my original Xbox to my 360. I’m still looking into it.

The last time I turned on my original Xbox I know all the data was there but it wouldn’t read discs that’s why I put it in storage but turns out I might be able to get the data…fingers crossed. I hope to try this out soon but since my storage is over an hour away from where I live it’s going to be on the back burner for a bit.

Halo 2: How To Get 1.5 Update On Xbox 360 - YouTube hope this helps this video may not work now since it is 4 years old but here is to hoping that this is an easier route to getting Halo 2 v.1.5 than going an hour out of your way for your OG Xbox. Good luck hope all works out on your hunt for 1.5

I’m pretty sure (and I could be wrong) that you can download the 1.5 update off of the Multiplayer Map Pack disc. I’m about 90% sure I did it last year, though, I understand you may not want to buy that disc even though its pretty cheap on eBay.

It’s going to be a bit of a pain but go to your Download History, on your Xbox 360, and scroll all the way back to when you originally downloaded the maps and simply redownload them. That should do the trick. I’ve had to do that, on a few different occasions for different games, over the years.

So the only problems I see with the suggestions in the thread, is that 1. The Disc based map pack bundle only updates you to Halo 2 Version 1.1, this is because the game has to be at V1.1 to use the maps and it’s patches out a ton of glitches and bugs that would make those maps unplayable/broken. 2. I don’t know if anything form the original download service via Xbox Live 1.0 would be able to be downloaded via download/purchase history on Xbox 360 simply for the fact that the 360 and original Xbox ran off of different Xbox Live servers and all of the servers for the OG Xbox and its Downloadable content have been unavailable since April 15, 2010. Hopefully the download history has it but if not the other methods in the thread should hopefully work.

I bought the disc version back in March, only played it twice because I view it as a collectible. I had to use an old hard drive from an original 360 and put it into a 360 slim to even play original Xbox titles, that was a fun project in itself. The only thing is though that I couldn’t save the data or copy data on other hard drives.

I figured I would give an update on my journey since my last post. After Gallopingelk1 suggested trying out the link above, I put in several hours of research. I downloaded the 1.5 update from that link and used a program as suggested and added the 1.5 update to my hard drive but it didn’t recognize the update. After more research and trial and error I came across a post that mentioned that halo 2 updates a bit buggy and are locked to the Xbox it was downloaded on. It’s very restrictive when it comes to the rights so it’s impossible to get the 1.5 update unless you mod your Xbox 360.

some things I noticed:
I used the map pack to install the maps (minus blastacular) and 1.1 update on my Xbox and it worked perfectly. Since I still had the blastacular maps on my hard drive I was getting an error about maps being corrupt but it was because I only had the 1.1 update and not the 1.5. All the maps worked except for the blastacular maps. After that I transferred them to my computer using the transfer cable and deleted from my Xbox 360 hard drive and then manually added them back on using the computer it worked fine and I think it worked only because they were originally installed on that Xbox so it hard the rights to it.

I had an old hard drive from the first gen Xbox 360 that had the maps and 1.5 update and transferred to a slim but it wouldn’t work because I wasn’t using the Xbox it was originally downloaded on.

To sum it up, if you didn’t have the update on the console you originally downloaded it on, it’s impossible to play the blastacular maps unless you mod the Xbox 360 to remove the rights.

I forgot to mention, I also tried going through my download history and redownload the update but it wasn’t showing up.

I also seen a post that said the halo 3 servers on the 360 had the 1.5 update for halo 2 but that’s not true. Maybe it was for a limited time but it’s not there. I came across a post that said Microsoft had the update as late as 2010 but then it was taken down.

After spending several hours (over 7 hours researching and trial and error…lol I was determined) it’s impossible to get this 1.5 update now unless you mod your Xbox.

I didn’t comment originally because it requires modding but yes, this is the only sure fire way to get the update. Also to clear things up:

  1. Download History - Original Xbox maps are not and never have been stored here on Xbox 360. You would launch the game, go to the games DLC page and it would launch a mini OG Xbox dashboard to buy/download the maps - even on an Xbox 360. Without OG LIVE, this is now impossible.

Effectively, you would need to manually get the update data from the internet, FTP the patch across (usually stored in $c/TDATA) and replace the files there. I can’t give you the specifics but the information is out there.

You really have to decide at what point does this become more hassle than its worth. It can be done but it will take time and if you don’t have any knowledge on what you are doing, you could potentially cause problems. Furthermore, if you’re trying it on a 360, which still has LIVE access, this could get you banned though personally I see no issue if you’re trying it on an Original Xbox since there’s no LIVE access. Finally, you would need to do this for all Xbox’s in order to get them all to 1.5.

The 1.5 update tells the game about the maps. It is impossible to run the maps without the update. You may have the map files but the update to tell the game what to do with these new maps isn’t there.
