Halo 2:Anniversary Wish List

Rumors are abound about Halo 2:Anniversary. Some say it will be just like Halo:CE Anniversary, with an HD remake of the Campaign complete with skulls and everything. Others say it will also have the complete Halo 2 multiplayer suite; maps, gametypes, customization, all that was there in the original. Some say it’s just a rumor, and that there is no Halo 2:Anniversary and there never will be.
Regardless, I have my own hopes and dream for Halo 2:Anniversary, some of which are perfectly reasonable, others may be pushing it (but just a little), and some might be better suited to Halo 5.
One thing’s for certain; if I get everything on this list, I will be one happy son-of-a-Yoink!-.

WARNING: Wall of Text Ahead

1. Skulls, New and Old
Halo 2 actually had skulls, but different than what we had in Halo 3 onward. Skulls could only be obtained on Legendary, and would only deactivate when you turned the game off. Afterwards, if you wanted to turn them back on, you had to find them all over again.

Skulls were also very hard to find; they were in out-of-reach locations that too often required you to employ grenade jumping or the help of another player, or so I’ve read.

First thing that needs to be done is to make it so the Skulls can be obtained on Normal. We should also be able to turn them on and off via the menu, just like in the more recent Halo games… we also should have all the original skulls from Halo 2, as well as some from Halo:Anniversary and Halo 3.

For example, Halo 2 had the Envy skull (use Active Camo while playing as the Chief) among a few other unique skulls. Halo Anniversary had some good ones, too; like Bandana (infinite ammo; my personal favorite) Recession, and Grunt Funeral.

2. Spartan and Elite Armor Types
Halo 2’s customization was limited to choosing between Spartan and Elite characters; in other words, no armor permutations. I don’t know if it’s possible to give us the same amount of customization we have in Halo:Reach and Halo 4, but they should give us something more than what we had.

If we can’t mix and match armor pieces, simply choosing from different armor types (like with Halo:Reach’s Elites) would be enough for me.

For the Spartans, we should have all the classics; Mark VI, Mark V (the Anniversary version, of course), CQB, EVA, EOD, ODST, Scout, and Recon, + Commando (Carter), Grenadier (Jorge), EVA

(Emile), and Jun's unique Scout variant from Halo:Reach. Also Mark VI/GEN2 (the Chief's armor from the Halo 4 campaign) as a little something extra; maybe as a pre-order bonus?

For the Elites, we should get all the ones we had in Halo:Reach, which were by far the coolest; Minor, Officer, Spec Ops, Ranger, Ultra, General, Zealot, and Field Marshal.

***3. Et Tu, Brute?***
Bungie said they didn't have a chance to flesh out the Brutes in Halo 2. So why should the Brutes in Halo 2:Anniversary be exactly the same as the original?

I'm not saying they should have energy shields (at least not with their ridiculous number of hit points from the original) but we should be seeing the distinctive Brute types; like the Minor, Captain, and Chieftain. The character models from Halo:Reach would fit best, IMO.

We need Brute weapons and vehicles; that means the Spiker and Gravity Hammer, and if possible, the Chopper.

***4. New Vehicles & Weapons***
In addition to the Brute sandbox, the UNSC and Covenant should get some new toys as well. Having the Assault Rifle back in both Campaign and Multiplayer would be nice. I also really want to see the Spartan Laser and Flamethrower.

As for UNSC vehicles... I think the Missile 'Hog wouldn't be too much to ask for, but if the Mantis and Falcon can fit into Halo 2, I wouldn't say no.

For the Covenant, I already suggested Brute weapons and vehicles (Spiker, Gravity Hammer, Chopper) but we should also get stuff like the Focus Rifle (alongside the Beam Rifle), and the Plasma Launcher.

Lastly, we need some drivable vehicles from Halo Wars. The Grizzly and the Locust are at the top of my wish list; the Grizzly would be a nice treat on the tank missions in the Campaign, like the bridge segment of Metropolis, or the battle in the ruins on Delta Halo.

The Locust would also be a great toy to play with on Quarantine Zone, and could also serve as the Covenant counterpart to the Mantis in multiplayer.

Vehicles like the Wolverine, Cobra, Hawk, and Covenant Vampire would be welcome as well... although some (like the Wolverine and Hawk) might be a bit overpowered for Multiplayer. Nonetheless, we should be allowed to drop any vehicle into multiplayer with Custom Game options, if we want. It I want to set up a Custom Game on Coagulation with Grizzlies, Mantises, or Locusts instead of Scorpions, I should be allowed to do that.

***5. The Complete Multiplayer Experience***
Give me it all. All of Halo 2 multiplayer, in all its glory. Every last map (including ALL of the DLC maps) all the custom game options (and maybe some new ones, if it can be done), and if possible, Theater mode and File Sharing.

One more thing about maps; I think Halo 2 for Windows Vista had one or two exclusive maps. We should get those as well, if they were any good; though I'll probably enjoy them regardless of what the rest of the community thinks, especially if we get the next item on my list...

***6. AI Bots for Custom Games***

It's something I've wanted since the original Halo 2, as to be able to play my favorite gametypes and maps whenever I want, instead of settling for keeping my fingers crossed that they'll get voted for in matchmaking.

We should also be able to customize each individual bot; armor, colors, emblems, service tags, and also skill (Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary). They should be able to use vehicles and pick up weapons like the players.

We should also be able to set different behaviors for each AI Bot, called "Stereotypes"; like Sniper (the AI will seek out and use sniper weapons), Driver (they tend to go for vehicles), Team Player (they pursue objectives like the Flag, Bomb, Oddball, Hill, etc.), Camper (they like to hide with Shotguns, Swords, and so on), Heavy Hitter (they go for heavy weapons like the Rocket Launcher), you get the idea.

***NOTE: Obviously, the Halo 2 maps don't have AI programmed into them (so don't say it), but there's no reason they can't fix that up.***

***7. 4-Player Co-op and Campaign Matchmaking***
Self-explanatory. Halo:CE Anniversary got 4-player co-op, so should Halo 2; but we should also get Campaign matchmaking, like in Halo:Reach.

Also, one last thing; ***DEDICATED SERVERS***. The lag in Halo 4's matchmaking is unbearable in co-op, and causes regular frustration in War Games. I'd rather not have to deal with frequent lag and black screens in Halo 2:Anniversary.

Well, that's all I got. Post your thoughts.

Halo: CE Anniversary didn’t have 4-player co-op. It was 2-player co-op, just like the original CE.

I’m guessing Halo 2 Anniversary will be the same way.

Also don’t forget to bring it on the Xbox 360 and ,IF really needed, on the Xbox One.

> Also don’t forget to bring it on the Xbox 360 and ,IF really needed, on the Xbox One.

I think it’s likely they’ll release it for both consoles. I don’t see why not…

But I’m getting my Xbox One later this year to make the most of Destiny (and I’m running out of hard drive space on my Xbox 360), so I’ll most likely pick up the Xbox One version, given the choice. Not to mention Microsoft has promised dedicated servers for all games on the Xbox One, and that’s a big deal if Halo 2:Anniversary has multiplayer.

I’d prefer not to see the mantis in H2A

> I’d prefer not to see the mantis in H2A

Why’s that? It’s no different than any other vehicle… the multiplayer version in Halo 4 was no more or less powerful than the Scorpion or Wraith.

people like you ruin games… leave halo 2 just as it is… and release it no need to hd it just release it and make the online available again… BXR your face son.

[/spoiler]

okay or how about we just re release halo 2. with nothing new and all the map packs. why would you want to change what started the online experience… it was perfect you don’t need 5000 different body armor types. IF you really need to add stuff to halo 2. then make a completely separate story mode. that you can still play the original halo 2 story line. but have like a different mode. life of a marine. and play halo 2 story through the eyes of a marine grunt. it be perfect it would not destroy the great halo 2 and it would be something new not done before.

Some people (myself included) feel that 343i needs to give us something more in Halo 2, particularly in the Campaign, to justify a re-release.

I’ll most likely play it even if it’s just an HD overhaul with Skulls and Terminals like Halo:CEA, but I’d be more excited if I knew they were giving us much more than what we had in the original.

In my OP, I pretty much suggested making the game exactly as it was; just with complete HD overhaul, some new toys and some improvements in the campaign, and some new options through Custom Games in multiplayer.

In Campaign… imagine having a Grizzly alongside the usual Scorpion and Warthog at the start of “Metropolis”. Or a Locust at the beginning of “Quarantine Zone”. The option to include these new vehicles in a Custom Game, if you wanted.

Or the Brutes, reskinned to look as they do in Halo 3 or Halo:Reach, with some new weapons like Spiker and Gravity Hammer to set them apart.

What about having AI Bots for Custom Games, thus enabling you to play whatever combination of maps and gametypes you want, without the need for other players. Such things would hardly destroy “the great Halo 2”, as you put it.

You could choose to completely ignore these new additions if you wanted, and then the game is exactly like the original, albeit with prettier graphics. So there’s no problem.

I could understand someone getting upset if I suggested adding loadouts, ordnance, instant respawn, armor abilities or perks, but I never suggested any of those things.

New weapons& vehicles? Is that a joke?

> New weapons& vehicles? Is that a joke?

Yeah, it’s not too much to ask to have a few extra toys to play with in the Campaign. Multiplayer may be fine exactly as it was, but Campaign could use more than a little spit and polish.

Here is what I want from Halo 2A

-Keep the core game play the same: This means everything from dual wielding to physics

-Improve - not remove: The levels New and Old Mombassa should look like better versions of Halo 3 ODST. I wanna see new skyboxes and buildings. Elites and Brutes should look as they did in Halo 3 (perhaps a bit crisper and nicer).

-Leave the weapons the same: There is no need to add weapons. We did not need the spiker before, and we won’t need it now. As much as this pains me, we are polishing Halo 2 - not remaking it. It pains me to say this, as Brutes, and Brute tech in general, really gets me in the warm spot. We can give them Plasma Rifles, Carbines, needlers, and even Human weapons…and of course…Brute fists.

-Improve the AI: People always complained about The Brutes in Halo 2. This is the chance to make the chances. Make them fast, feral, and terrifying. When they charge, they should move at twice your speed, take a boat-load of damage, and give them a 1 or 2 hit melee. Really emphasize their size and strength. In fact, AI improvements across the board would be nice.

-4 Player network co-op: A must…period. Scale enemy numbers based on players to keep the challenge.

-Legendary difficulty: Get rid of the checkpoint reversion on death on legendary difficulty when playing on co-op. I like the difficulty…but I hated that feature.

-Bring back Halo 2 MP. Don’t give us Halo 4 MP. Give us Halo 2 MP.

-Dual Wield: I cannot stress this enough…MAKE SURE THIS FEATURE IS IN THE GAME! We have had no dual-wielding since Halo 3. We lost it in ODST, Reach, and 4.

I know it seems like a tall order, and it is easy to wish for stuff…but…aside from a smarter AI…most of this is just an asset polish.

BUT…

I also wish for Firefight. I would love to see Firefight in this game. It could work seeing as Halo 2 took place while Halo 3 ODST was happening.

Give us Bonus levels! The E3 2004 Demo as an unlock-able playable level for say completing the game on normal. Then for Heroic we could have a level set on Delta Halo from the eyes of Sgt Johnson, in the time period of the level quarantine zone except from the UNSC point of view. Just as a bonus unlock-able level. Lastly for Legendary, we should has a HALO 5: GUARDIANS prologue ish mission! From the eyes of the Arbiter post Halo 3 pre Halo 4, when he was busy fighting the Storm? Just a thought.

just turn the -Yoinking!- severs back on… all you have to do is make hd graphics and dont change the engine at all, if it plays like reach or halo4 ill be pissed.

I’m going to have to say both Audio Logs and Secret Terminals. One of the best aspects of Halo is not even following the general order of operations, but exploiting level design to find varying oddities and creepy eggs.

Multiplayer Map ‘Terminal’ had what in my opinion looked like a potential Halo 3 tease, the station directory illustrated a barren land with a huge dark circle on what appears to be an outline of “Voi”.

They can add whatever they want to the campaign, But if they touch my “precious” multiplayer i will throw my xbox juan into their headquarters

  1. Halo Reach Grenade Launcher remake in Halo 2 Anniversary. It has really cool weapon design, it takes skills to use, it is fun to use and its awesome.

  2. Halo VISR Mode from Halo 3 Odst remake in Halo 2 Anniversary.

  3. A.I. Bots for offline multiplayer. I do not expect Ai bots in Halo 2 Anniversary but I honestly want bots. Halo 3 is such a good game but sadly there is no bots. It would make Halo 2 Anniversary godly because Halo with bots is just godly man. I would play halo everyday on my own, with friends in custom and my cousin.

  4. Halo 3 Equipments like the Bubble Shield, etc.

  5. Invasion Game Type.

  6. Halo Wars Vehicle like the Grizzly Tank and the Vulture.

  7. All maps to be remade would be nice. If not possible and only can choose 6 maps I would choose Terminal and Tombstone. Terminal is really cool and was never remade and We never get to play Tombstone in a halo classic style like halo 3 rather we played it in reach, reach is very different from the classic.

  8. Elite armor customization have the option to choose the arbiter. Would be cool since the model is made anyway why not use it.

  9. Ideas for map could be in the night which could be used with VISR Mode. VISR Mode in Halo 3 Odst is so cool but not in Halo reach. In Halo Reach VISR was a boring and plain Green night vision. In Halo 3 Odst, I really liked the green and red outline of the allies and enemies respectively.
