Rumors are abound about Halo 2:Anniversary. Some say it will be just like Halo:CE Anniversary, with an HD remake of the Campaign complete with skulls and everything. Others say it will also have the complete Halo 2 multiplayer suite; maps, gametypes, customization, all that was there in the original. Some say it’s just a rumor, and that there is no Halo 2:Anniversary and there never will be.
Regardless, I have my own hopes and dream for Halo 2:Anniversary, some of which are perfectly reasonable, others may be pushing it (but just a little), and some might be better suited to Halo 5.
One thing’s for certain; if I get everything on this list, I will be one happy son-of-a-Yoink!-.
WARNING: Wall of Text Ahead
1. Skulls, New and Old
Halo 2 actually had skulls, but different than what we had in Halo 3 onward. Skulls could only be obtained on Legendary, and would only deactivate when you turned the game off. Afterwards, if you wanted to turn them back on, you had to find them all over again.
Skulls were also very hard to find; they were in out-of-reach locations that too often required you to employ grenade jumping or the help of another player, or so I’ve read.
First thing that needs to be done is to make it so the Skulls can be obtained on Normal. We should also be able to turn them on and off via the menu, just like in the more recent Halo games… we also should have all the original skulls from Halo 2, as well as some from Halo:Anniversary and Halo 3.
For example, Halo 2 had the Envy skull (use Active Camo while playing as the Chief) among a few other unique skulls. Halo Anniversary had some good ones, too; like Bandana (infinite ammo; my personal favorite) Recession, and Grunt Funeral.
2. Spartan and Elite Armor Types
Halo 2’s customization was limited to choosing between Spartan and Elite characters; in other words, no armor permutations. I don’t know if it’s possible to give us the same amount of customization we have in Halo:Reach and Halo 4, but they should give us something more than what we had.
If we can’t mix and match armor pieces, simply choosing from different armor types (like with Halo:Reach’s Elites) would be enough for me.
For the Spartans, we should have all the classics; Mark VI, Mark V (the Anniversary version, of course), CQB, EVA, EOD, ODST, Scout, and Recon, + Commando (Carter), Grenadier (Jorge), EVA
(Emile), and Jun's unique Scout variant from Halo:Reach. Also Mark VI/GEN2 (the Chief's armor from the Halo 4 campaign) as a little something extra; maybe as a pre-order bonus?
For the Elites, we should get all the ones we had in Halo:Reach, which were by far the coolest; Minor, Officer, Spec Ops, Ranger, Ultra, General, Zealot, and Field Marshal.
***3. Et Tu, Brute?***
Bungie said they didn't have a chance to flesh out the Brutes in Halo 2. So why should the Brutes in Halo 2:Anniversary be exactly the same as the original?
I'm not saying they should have energy shields (at least not with their ridiculous number of hit points from the original) but we should be seeing the distinctive Brute types; like the Minor, Captain, and Chieftain. The character models from Halo:Reach would fit best, IMO.
We need Brute weapons and vehicles; that means the Spiker and Gravity Hammer, and if possible, the Chopper.
***4. New Vehicles & Weapons***
In addition to the Brute sandbox, the UNSC and Covenant should get some new toys as well. Having the Assault Rifle back in both Campaign and Multiplayer would be nice. I also really want to see the Spartan Laser and Flamethrower.
As for UNSC vehicles... I think the Missile 'Hog wouldn't be too much to ask for, but if the Mantis and Falcon can fit into Halo 2, I wouldn't say no.
For the Covenant, I already suggested Brute weapons and vehicles (Spiker, Gravity Hammer, Chopper) but we should also get stuff like the Focus Rifle (alongside the Beam Rifle), and the Plasma Launcher.
Lastly, we need some drivable vehicles from Halo Wars. The Grizzly and the Locust are at the top of my wish list; the Grizzly would be a nice treat on the tank missions in the Campaign, like the bridge segment of Metropolis, or the battle in the ruins on Delta Halo.
The Locust would also be a great toy to play with on Quarantine Zone, and could also serve as the Covenant counterpart to the Mantis in multiplayer.
Vehicles like the Wolverine, Cobra, Hawk, and Covenant Vampire would be welcome as well... although some (like the Wolverine and Hawk) might be a bit overpowered for Multiplayer. Nonetheless, we should be allowed to drop any vehicle into multiplayer with Custom Game options, if we want. It I want to set up a Custom Game on Coagulation with Grizzlies, Mantises, or Locusts instead of Scorpions, I should be allowed to do that.
***5. The Complete Multiplayer Experience***
Give me it all. All of Halo 2 multiplayer, in all its glory. Every last map (including ALL of the DLC maps) all the custom game options (and maybe some new ones, if it can be done), and if possible, Theater mode and File Sharing.
One more thing about maps; I think Halo 2 for Windows Vista had one or two exclusive maps. We should get those as well, if they were any good; though I'll probably enjoy them regardless of what the rest of the community thinks, especially if we get the next item on my list...
***6. AI Bots for Custom Games***
It's something I've wanted since the original Halo 2, as to be able to play my favorite gametypes and maps whenever I want, instead of settling for keeping my fingers crossed that they'll get voted for in matchmaking.
We should also be able to customize each individual bot; armor, colors, emblems, service tags, and also skill (Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary). They should be able to use vehicles and pick up weapons like the players.
We should also be able to set different behaviors for each AI Bot, called "Stereotypes"; like Sniper (the AI will seek out and use sniper weapons), Driver (they tend to go for vehicles), Team Player (they pursue objectives like the Flag, Bomb, Oddball, Hill, etc.), Camper (they like to hide with Shotguns, Swords, and so on), Heavy Hitter (they go for heavy weapons like the Rocket Launcher), you get the idea.
***NOTE: Obviously, the Halo 2 maps don't have AI programmed into them (so don't say it), but there's no reason they can't fix that up.***
***7. 4-Player Co-op and Campaign Matchmaking***
Self-explanatory. Halo:CE Anniversary got 4-player co-op, so should Halo 2; but we should also get Campaign matchmaking, like in Halo:Reach.
Also, one last thing; ***DEDICATED SERVERS***. The lag in Halo 4's matchmaking is unbearable in co-op, and causes regular frustration in War Games. I'd rather not have to deal with frequent lag and black screens in Halo 2:Anniversary.
Well, that's all I got. Post your thoughts.
