Hello everyone! This year is a big year for Halo with many things coming in the months to come! Theres the rumors of a Halo TV series being made, possible Halo 5 news being meationed along with other things at E3 in a couple weeks, and last but not least, Halo 2 Anniversary.
We all know the biggest possibility of a Halo game this year is Halo 2 Anniversary being that Halo 5 was pushed to next year yet a halo came is still said to be releasing this year. Also, it is Halo 2’s 10 year anniversary this year in October, which points all signs to a remake. Some people are in favor of it while others arent, just like with Halo CEA when that came out. As for those who are in favor of H2A, this is a list of must haves and must nots for the game in my opinion as well as other’s opinions, please feel free to add some or state your own ideas!
—————————————————————————
Must Haves:
Identical multiplayer experience just like the original Halo 2’s multiplayer/online feature.
The option to switch back and forth between original and new graphics.
All the easter eggs and glitches that were in the original Halo 2 - DO NOT TAKE THOSE OUT!
The same ranking system as the original
Option for Clans, just like original
Added in terminals (just like halo CEA)
As many remade maps as possible, preferably maps such as Headlong, Waterworks, etc…
Please add what you have in mind to make this game
Feel and seem as if we are playing the original Halo 3 with the option/hint of newness!

Agree with everything else. But this is where things get tricky.
Although I love H2 (best console FPS ever if you ask me, ergo: also best Halo) it did have its shortcomings in the multiplayers that could be exploited.
I am talking about the glitches, BXB or whatever it was, superjumps, router unplugging, mods, bodies/player falling/forcing themselves out of the map. Having more than 16 people in a custom game if you brought your whole party with you. etc etc.
Now, some of those were in credibly fun. But others were annoying, even back then. And top that off with a matchmaking system that was sometimes a bit shoddy with the connection (lag etc).
The question then rises: what to include, and what not? Because shipping a game with bugs and glitches that have been known to exsist for 10 years now might be a bit…weird to some consumers.
And I for one don’t mind being able to super jump, or to try and break out of maps. But I do hate BXB…
So 343i has to choose between a couple of ‘evils’ so to speak that will probably piss off a part of this community, who will undoubtly become very vocal about their dismay again.
My main concern about H2A multi is however that it will never recapture that feeling of the old days. Back then, Live was new. People had headsets. People worked together, talked together, strategized, you actually met new friends online.
These days people barely use headsets, go for their own profit and confine themselves to their party chats.
Playing BTB CTF on Headlong for instance, or better: Zanzibar, will never be the same as back then.
I am all about a essential remake… however the glitches sound very game braking, which amasses to a bad reputation and fun. If Halo 2 Anniversary is the said Halo on Xbox One game… then it should be polished to allow the best experience possible… with some exceptions to the glitches.
My wishes:
Videos Terminals featuring additional story content about 343 Guilty Spark; 2401 Penitent Tangent; Flood Gravemind; Iso-Didact; Ur-Didact; Librarian; Lifeshaper; Master Builder; Mendicant Bias; Primordial; Lord Of Admirals. And anything else that is relevant.
The MA5C Assault Rifle. Please add this gun in… it is the only Halo to date without the iconic Master Chief weapon.
Classic and Next-Gen Alternating Engines to switch between during campaign… not Multiplayer.
I disagree with the identical mp and glitches. The glitches that affected competitive play should be removed for obvious reasons.
I think the mp should be based off of Halo 2/3 gameplay. Give it Halo 3’s custom options and more updated features etc or hell, just combine Halo 2 and 3’s multiplayer in general with a Reachlike forge. That’s the Halo I have been praying for anyway.
I know that for many Halo 2 is all about multiplayer, but for me campaign will be probably more important part. As story goes it’s right in the middle: sequel to Halo CE, prequel to Halo 3 and starting point for ODST etc. Yet, it’s only game to date which doesn’t have achivements (if you don’t count that Windows port) to commemorate participation in all these important events, which left their mark on Halo’s universe. Actually it’s only (fps) Halo game I haven’t finished on legendary. I would love 343i to give me such opportunity (and motivation!) just like they did with Halo Anniversary.
I think that game was great: it had improved graphics and extras (like Terminals), but apart from that every enemy, stone and script was taken straight from original game. That way I could finish it on legendary (which I never did in original, despite playing it a lot both as Halo PC and original Xbox version) and trully said that I beat the game. I would love to see something like this in Halo 2 Anniversary. There could some extras to find on the levels, maybe some letters/memoirs/logs which would give world more depth. Maybe some optional, alternate routes for those who know Halo 2 too well.
To be honest, I don’t think that game like this would be something equivalent to current campaign-oriented fps like Far Cry 3 (or even Crysis 3, which even though being linear, has that huuuge open levels with many alternate routes, secrets and side missions), but that’s part where 343i should work on Halo 5. With Halo 2 I would be happy with original campaign (with same everything, included physics), updated graphics and added some extra content.
Things get hairy when in goes to multiplayer.
I think there should be 100% same as original playlist with 100% same as original gameplay (glitches included) for game’s purists (same who poisoned Halo 4 with their “Halo 2 is always better” mantra). I don’t think it would be any successful, but it should be there just to keep those people away. Rest of players should have updated version of Halo 2 multiplayer. I’m not talking about AAs and all these stuff which could change gameplay for which original maps aren’t designed for, but current genre’s standards (as e.g. drop in-drop out system or alternate, modern control schemes) would be very welcome. I don’t think there are new maps or weapons needed. Maybe forge (this time working, even for people who are playing on split screen!), but Halo 2 with it’s map packs and maps from pc vesion has enough content to keep people busy till Halo 5 goes out (and beyond). Most of those people (myself included) haven’t even played Halo 2 original multiplayer 9 or 10 years ago so it could be actually something new, with that “it’s blast from the past” kind of feel but still lots of content.
I don’t really have any wishes or expectations for a H2A, but if the MP glitches like the near instant-kill button combo is kept in, then I’m probably going to steer away from its multiplayer - and that’s assuming they include it and it’s not just H4/5’s multiplayer with some new or remastered maps.
I agree though, being able to play the campaign again in modern graphics would be breathtaking. Even in Quarantine Zone, my most despised mission in the series along with The Library…
In the unfortunate event that an H2A does happen (I’m against the idea, if it wasn’t obvious), here’s what I’d want:
Remake, NOT Retexture
One of my main issues with Halo CEA was that it was pretty much a collage of past games’ resources and retuxtures of the original CE’s geometry. While it was great to relive CE in HD, all it was was just painting a fresh new coat. For Halo 2A, I want the resources and models to be built from scratch, not Halo 4 and Reach resources with Halo 2’s models. Additionally, using a new engine with the Xbox One in mind is something that I’d want.
Remove the Glitches
Whether you liked it or not, Halo 2’s multiplayer was by definition, broken. Be it those annoying button combos, or people shooting me from outside of the map, Halo 2’s countless glitches ultimately drove me away from the game. However, while the glitches MUST be removed from multiplayer, I would like to perform super-jumps and such in the campaign.
Forge and Custom Games
Something that really turned me off from CEA was that not only did it force the multiplayer into Reach, but it also lacked Forge and Custom Games. For H2A, I’d like nothing more than to Forge the -Yoink- out of all of the maps and furthermore, I’d like to see CG in their full glory.
Expansive Terminals
CEA was a good start, but I want to go further. One of my major vendettas against H2A is that it doesn’t expand the canon. However, if we add dozens of terminals, in all shapes and sizes, throughout the campaign, I’d be very satisfied.

You realize if they remade it like you said, they would probably just use Halo 4’s engine and that would remove most things resembling Halo 2 off the bat.
It is an anniversary, not a remake. I can appreciate some new things added to remakes, but I don’t want them to make Halo 2 from scratch in a new engine. It wouldn’t feel like Halo 2 then.
Make the co-op split screen divide the screen horizontally rather than vertically. That and halo’s legendary co-op effectively having the iron skull on is completely ridiculous.
A gameplay without BXR, BXB, The double shot RRX is not the halo 2 gameplay… i want halo 2 gameplay!! and the same maps, not remakes!
New features only for:
graphic
netcode
About forge… i love it, but i prefer halo 2 maps only…it’s not a new halo, it’s halo 2! competitive games was played on lockout, midship, ivory tower, not on forge maps…

The highlighted paragraph would be a great way to completely ruin Halo 2 and turn off a large amount of the many people currently pro-H2A if not done perfectly. I want a Halo 2 Anniversary to feel and play exactly like the original (at least Campaign-wise) but with prettier, faithful, and consistent visuals and reorchestrated music. Everything else I agree with, though!
EDIT: Except the first sentence, obviously. I want H2A.
I agree with this post, it is pretty accurate and probaly the best way to do H2A. Some people might not like it and some thinks might sadly get left out for the betterment of the whole community but idealy this would be nice
343 has confirmed nothing.
I see no reason to get your hopes up about something with little to no backup that it would actually happen.
Just a small example, but people basically “knew” next gen xbox would the “Xbox 720”
Didn’t happen.
As much as I would love a remake for Halo 2, I wanna put a little sense in here and maybe just remind you guys that it probably won’t happen.
And then where does the train stop? Because Halo 3 was stunning and revolutionary in some ways as well, so in 2017 are we to remake that? And then Reach in 2020 because it’s where Halo began?
CEA had good reason because it was what kicked things off and was the very first. But I think a Halo 2 remake is as far as it should go, perhaps in memoir of its multiplayer. As much as I’d love a remake of Reach down the road, it just isn’t realistic.
