Launch day, I tried to play MCC w/ my 67 year old father (he plays games EVERY night from 9 PM - 1 AM at the least).
We started at 18:00 eastern time. We spent the next 80 minutes trying to connect to play a game of Halo 2 Anniversary.
We tried:
-
Start Party outside Halo. Enter Halo. Invite Dad to game. Start Halo 2, it starts loading for both of us. Then one of us will hear a beep, beep, beep and is disconnected. A few seconds later, the other player is disconnected. Error messages include things like “playlist full” and “host disconnected.”
-
Don’t be in a party. Invite the other player to the game. Player joins, start Halo 2. Same issues as above.
-
Started game, joined a party only. Then invited to game. Same issues as above
We also did hard resets of the systems, multiple times. Completely killed the game (quit from the home screen). Even restarted our routers/modems multiple times.
I checked my NAT - it is Open. His NAT is moderate, so we figured him connecting to me is no issue, but tried everything in both directions, multiple times. I will open his NAT when I go over tonight.
I saw the game was updated on the back end, so we tried again last night. Exactly the same issues, doing all the variations of the above.
After 20 minutes of frustration, cussing, despair, and anger, I said the heck with it and started a game… of Halo Anniversary. And guess what? It connected us right up and played, mostly, without issue. The game did stop loading for him going from Pillar of Autumn to Halo. Then when I quit my game, the game crashed, HARD, and after giving me a disconnect error and a rather loud and obnoxious repeating sound, the game crashed all the way to the home screen. I then loaded up MCC and we tried Halo 2 again. SAME issues as above. Went back to Halo, chose Halo as the mission and made it through both Halo and The Truth and Reconciliation without issue. It even loaded The Silent Cartographer and we played that for a few minutes before I had to go to bed (I’m not retired like he is lol).
What do I need to do in order to play Halo 2 Anniversary Co-Op Campaign with my father?
