Halo 2: Anniversary campaign isn't quite 1080

Guys,

Just seen the news, had to sign up here to express my dissatisfaction.

The ability to switch back & forth between game engines is a gimmick, if you put it to a vote im certain the majority of people would prefer 1080p over a lower resolution + the ability to switch game engines.

What you’re doing here is a repeat of the X1 ‘tv tv tv’ reveal - you’re forcing the gimmicks on people instead of listening to them, people have made it impossibly clear over the course of year 1 how important resolution is them, please listen to your fans.

The master chief collection has the potential to be flawless, with H2A the jewel in its crown, please dont ruin the main aspect of the collection people are looking forward to by running it at a lower resolution because you’d rather force the engine switch gimmick on everyone…

Not running H2A at 1080p is a mistake, plain and simple. At the very least please offer an option to the customer to disable the engine switching in favor of a higher resolution.

Sincerely,

A dedicated X1 enthusiast.

Update - Here’s the confirmed resolutions, the H2A resolution is the equivalent of less than 900p/60;

HaloCE campaign: 1080p/60
HaloCEA campaign: 1080p/60
Halo 2 campaign: 1080p/60
Halo 2A campaign: 1328x1080/60
Halo 3 campaign: 1080p/60
Halo 4 campaign: 1080p/60

Personally, I couldn’t care too much as long as the game looks good and has a stable 60fps.

1328x1080 vs native 1080p?

Give me 1328x1080 and that ‘gimmick’.

I like the switching feature.
Besides, I couldn’t care less about pixels. FPS is where its at.

I can’t even tell the difference between 1328x1080 and native 1080p so i’ll definitely take the gimmick.

I think a lot of people maybe don’t care as much because they probably don’t realize that the 1328 x 1080 resolution has only about 70% of the pixels as 1920 x 1080 which in my opinion is a significant decrease, especially considering that 1080p is pretty standard these days for televisions.

I saw that in the IGN article too. 1328x1080 isn’t widescreen though. that’s what has me concerned. that’s awfully close to a 4:3 ratio. I’d gladly take a framerate hit to preserve the 16:9 format

60fps is far more important than 1080p for halo.

Ya I actually think I agree here. I played lots of Halo 2 so seeing the old graphics will be a little nostalgic for me but I also think after checking the difference a few times on each level Ill be done w that forever. If it were a choice Id prefer to surrender that option for the upgraded resolution. Dont permanently hamper the experience (even if only a little) in order to allow for occasional moments of “OMG look what 2004 was like”

JMHO

a

im well and good with 720p 60 fps but why 1328x1080?

i’ll take that “gimmick” over those few pixels on any day of the week. H5G is the game with which 343i will impress in terms of graphic and resolution. the mcc is pure nostalgia fan-service IMO, so that “gimmick” is much more important and definitely much more wanted than 1080p.

> I’m confused. Does the classic Halo 2 campaign (old graphics) still run at 1080p?

Indeed it does, i’ve updated the original post with the confirmed resolution list. The Anniversary edition runs at the equivalent of less than 900p.

343i did the right choice with keeping vertical resolution in 1080. I have both PS4 and XBone and I’m able to compare Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer with it’s 960x1080 vs Titanfall’s 1408x792. Despite having lower pixel count, Killzone just look much better/crisper than Titanfall.

was reading more in to it, The drop in resolution to 1328x1080 means that, while the vertical resolution remains identical to a full 1080p image, the horizontal pixel count is paired back by just over 30 per cent, and then likely upscaled to 1080p to fit the full 1080p resolution of an HD display.

Humm… while I’m not normally one to care about 1080 resolution, (or even 60FPS tbh) and I’m sure it will still look great, I really don’t see the point of the “instant” switch".

After all its not like I’m gonna be doing it in the middle of combat, just on the odd occasion when I want to look at the differences of the old building/skybox/scenery, and the delayed switch is fine for that.

So an option to disable the switching ability to gain the higher resolution would be nice.

I can’t believe someone is actually bothered by a few pixels of difference. You know, when i see a game in motion and it looks gorgeous i don’t really care at what resolution is running, its kind of redundant if you think about it. HA2 looks gorgeous, crisp, sharp. I don’t need a 1080p printed on the box to tell me how beautiful a game looks in my eyes.

So my answer is obviously the option to toggle between the two versions, which isn’t just about the classic visuals, but also about the classic music.

Not a big deal to me. I was never buying MC Collection for graphics anyways. It’s the Halo gameplay being super smooth I look forward too.

Most of my time will be spent in regular Halo 1-3 multiplayer anyways (not anniversary) so it doesn’t bother me one bit.

I think BF4 on xbox one is 900p and that game still looks great so 1300p will be just fine.

um…

Stop pretending your eyes can see those little pixels. It’s not about who has the better graphics. it’s about who has the better game. Halo wins in this department. in fact, all throughout Halo’s lifespan, we’ve had lackluster graphics, but that didn’t stop us did it? It’s only know that Halo is getting real good graphics.

I wonder how god it looks as opposed to full 1080p.
