Adrift was awesome, great for nearly all modes too!
It sucked that they teased us with the Colossus Mech in the middle and never let us pilot the thing.
Ya and we still don’t have Halo 2 and Halo2A and Halo 4 in Halo MCC!! ![]()
Sprint in infinite is unbelivably tame compared to how it was in 5.
the movement mechanics really are more in line with the scale of older games now.
No more maps that are gigantic that Halo 5 Had because everyone could zip around the maps at mach 10.
With just a little bit of extra scaling, Older smaller maps can absolutely be updated.
If not a 1 to 1 update, newer maps can in the very least be inspired thematically & geometrically by those older maps.
Production started immediately after 5 as stated by the devs.
Every new mainline halo is built kn a “new engine”
The amount of maps isn’t the main issue. A lack of decent maps and also gametypes is the issue imo.
It is very tame which almost makes you wonder why its even there…? Despite it being only a 10-15% boost in movement speed, it still requires the maps to be designed around it.
The movement mechanics are in line with H5. So you’re right, “older game” lol.
It’s like someone said in another thread, why would you want a slower H5? Why would you want an H3 with sprint?
You’re right tho, they could do small tweaks to bring older maps back. I’m just saying it wouldn’t feel the same cuz of sprint so they’re probably trying to stick to doing their own thing with Infinite. Making maps is the one thing I’ll give 343 credit for being decent at.
The difference between those Halo 2 and Halo 3 launch maps and Halo Infinite’s launch maps is that at least half of those Halo 2 and Halo 3 maps are great maps. Just gif 4v4 alone there’s 5 solid maps there listed for Halo 2 and 8 solid maps for Halo 3. None of Halo Infinite’s launch maps even come remotely close to even the worst maps on those lists.
Guess I’ll just settle for mediocrity then. Cool.
11 maps that were all instant classics and a good majority of them could be used for both 4v4 slayer as well as big team. Not the same.
Why does speed matter?
The only thing really left over from HALO5 is clambering. Other than that, Infinite is definitively nothing like Halo5 on the scale of movement.
Movement speed in Infinite is a fraction of the HALO5 movement speed.
Hell, Halo 5’s movement speed is THEE fastest in the entire series by far.
Honestly the only thing that absolutely trashes Halo’s symmetry of movement is super sliding.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-ZsvTqdRH0A
You ask why do I want it slower than halo 5?
God… why would I ever want movement like that? Where its on the level of Titanfall?
It utterly breaks the tactical positioning part of the game.
One of the core features of the Old Halo arena, is that after a while you build strong game feel.
You understand how far an opponent can theoretically move in a given time.
The MOST amount of ground they can cover over a hand full of seconds.
Two Good OG Halo players can both understand where their likely going to meet in the middle, and stage themselves for a fight.
This part of Halo combat gets completely thrown out when everyone is capable of moving at subsonic speeds. It So heavily changes the way the game plays. Since no any single player with knowledge of the map and movement. Could be anywhere in the map in a matter of seconds.
It pushes the game into Twitch shooter territory movement wise.
Do no want that, want to avoid that, If I wanted to play a high speed twitch shooter, I’d play Titanfall.
If I want Halo with Sprint, I just want more of Halo Reach.
I don’t think you realize that I was agreeing with you on my original comment.
You just mentioned that in H5 people were blistering around the map at Mach 10 in H5 so that’s why speed matters. That’s not Halo imo.
I’m not sure how you could think Infinite is nothing like H5. I was watching H5 gameplay the other day and its amazing how remarkably similar it really is. It’s definitely not “a fraction” of what H5 was. Just because you don’t spawn with thrusters or have the spartan abilities anymore? The equipment spawn very often. Sprint sliding, clambering, super sliding (as you mentioned) and combining slide with grappleshot, all emulate the speed problem H5 had. Combining that with high aim assist bullet mag gun play just makes this game less fun unless of course you like that type of gameplay. If you’re into H5 tho, you may not like it cuz, as you said, it’s been slowed down.
That’s what I meant by, “why would you want a slower H5?” If you like H5, Infinite is gonna annoy you.
But at the same time, if you like H2/H3. Infinite is gonna annoy you lol. They’ve come up with some hybrid of the two and 75%+ of the community just don’t like it. Hence the significant player drop off. (lets not get into the debate of how player drop off is common due to wide variety of games these days. The player drop off for a highly anticipated Halo game has been unprecedented) They should just stick with what they want to do themselves, as a developer, and not try and cater to everyone.
Might want to re-read your response.
It read very specifically as a disagreement lmao
These people are just entitled children screaming at the top of their lungs because their ice cream doesn’t have sprinkles AND the good brand of chocolate syrup. Don’t try to reason with them you’re outnumbered.
My first response was in reply to your asking for remaking the classics and how sprint is the reason. I’d like to see those maps too. What I said was objectively true. Map design, weapon design and player movement are directly correlated. It’s like this in any shooter. Neutral comment.
My second response was agreeing with you about sprint being tame in Infinite.
No offense but I don’t need to re-read anything. You assumed a tone of voice through text which you shouldn’t ever do.
you can and keep verticality in mind. Remember Last Resort isn’t just Zanzibar with a coat of paint on it. they added a walkway from camp froman, a 2nd side passage into the base. a rubble pile to get into the seawall from attacker’s side. Reach’s remake of Timberland doesn’t take jetpacks into consideration but they are still used. there is more cover on the map to make up for the fact the map is flatter than its HPC counterpart.
It’s doable. Someone else already said the map designs in this game are absolute dog. its uninspired and “safe for esports” trash.
THANK YOU.
Finally someone posts this here.
People need to understand this. Many of them are so damn entitled and have obviously unrealistic expectations.
It’s been six years since Halo 5? 343i didn’t start making Halo Infinite the day after Halo 5 launched. They didn’t spend every minute of their lives since that day working on Infinite. The process started YEARS after that day. And the developers have other things to do in their lives than work on Infinite. Family, friends, travel, holidays, bills, mortgages, shopping, driving, walking, eating, sleeping – These are just SOME of the things that actually take up a SIGNIFICANTLY LARGE amount of their time.
Oh, and how many people here have forgotten (or just don’t care) about COVID? Yeah. How has your people’s school and work lives been the past few years? Yeah. You people been advancing your work and making significant improvements in your industries (or school systems)? I thought not.
The developers have new technologies available to use in this day and age? Guess who built a large amount of those technologies? The same people who many Halo players think should have been working on building Infinite. Oh, wait. That’s exactly what they were doing there. As for new technologies developed by any other people? Well, the technologies are NEW. Which means, well, no one can use them with peak efficiency (not even the people who developed them, let alone people working on their own technologies).
Microsoft is this huge company that can make any of its subcompanies do stuff quickly and efficiently? What? 343i isn’t the entirety of Microsoft’s work. You know that new Surface your relative got recently? That new computer your friend has? That new software version that released not that long ago? That couldn’t have been Microsoft, right? Oh, wait.
The maps suck? That’s your opinion. End of sentence.
There should be more game modes in Infinite? They’re coming, so just wait for them. Several have already been added, and more are confirmed to be coming soon enough. Again, this isn’t exactly the most productive time in video games’ history, with all the health and social unrest stuff going on (among countless other things).
You want 343i just to give the players mods to use so the players can add to the game? Yeah, they’ll just divert that large amount of resources and put Infinite’s continuation back a while so people with nothing better to do in their lives (even taking COVID into consideration) to build more maps for the game. Oh, you think it’s that easy to mod content into Infinite yourselves? No. Modding isn’t this super-fix-all-make-all-games-the-best-possible method. Even the players who actually have any clue whatsoever about modding can’t do that.
You think 343i is some evil manipulator of your childhood memories? That they are just out to get you and your beloved gaming franchise? What? No. 343i isn’t conspiring to kill Halo, 343i isn’t trying to steal that bitcoin you keep hidden so the government won’t steal all your money, 343i isn’t operating secret military bases on the moon that you think is a flat disk spinning in the sky. Come on.
“block of text”
Apologist detected.
Reminder that Halo 2 launched with 11 maps and 7 or so gamemodes for it’s matchmaking. Compound this further and even BTB had around 6+ gamemodes (neutral flag, 1 flag, 2 flag, Team slayer, etc) so there was vareity and people didn’t get burned out. Halo 3 launched with 11 or so maps as well, Forge and Theatre, ALL OF IT AT LAUNCH. It also introduced armor customization, locked only behind achievements that varied in difficulty. Reach expanded on this customization, added Invasion and presented a more stable Firefight mode.
Between H2 and H3 the dev cycle was THREE YEARS. and within 3 years they created a game that had a good diversity of maps, gamemodes, gametypes and features. Infinite had what? 6 years and that’s not counting the fact they essentially scrapped their original plan, brought in Joe Staten to try and fix their mess and still what launched?:
3 Game modes or so, 11 bland “safe for esports” maps, buggy broken , a glacial progression system with a large chunk of customization locked behind paywalls. Apologists need to get outside and take that crusty corpo -Yoink!- out of their mouths. The game is lackluster compared to what people consider the peak of the franchise. 343i era Halo has been a consistent letdown between various choices, lack of polish and overall a quality that makes Halo 2 look like it launched flawlessly.
