You know, there’s this thing called the ODST pistol. Lower it’s zoom level and range, reduce it’s accuracy over range, and it could make a fine balanced pistol.
(Speaking of balance, why is the Needle Rifle allowed to exist? Big clip size, Bloom isn’t that big, 3 shards in flesh for a supercombine. Because it’s individual shots don’t do that much damage right? So why can’t the ODST pistol, which was underpowered against shields, return in the form described above? The only argument I can think of is that the pistol is hitscan)

I’m not a CE mp person (though I have used it in Halo PC on Blood Gulch and in Xbox ‘custom games’ matches, giving quite a shock to some players). I don’t say CE pistol master race (at least not over it’s power).
I’m a CE campaign person. Where I come from, the pistol had more meaning than ‘it’s just an op monster’.
As I’ve pointed out in the above link/reply, the pistol, while extremely satisfying to use (sound and effects can contribute to the feel, not just the damage), can be tedious.
The AR was much more fun to use since it was underpowered. Most of the time, when facing Flood, I only took the pistol out when I was dealing with rocket launcher Flood or to give a quick melee (which was actually possible back then, even in H2) to an approaching combat form, temporarily stopping their charge giving me time to backpedal or load rounds into it.
