Halo 1 Gameplay

I’d like to start off by saying that I didn’t grow up liking Halo 1. Call me what you want, but when there was so much skill gap to where I couldn’t even compete against my friends that were good at the game, I couldn’t enjoy myself. It wasn’t until I played Halo 3 online (with a beginner’s playlist and ranking system specifically designed to teach me how to play) that I could truly get into it.

That being said, the earlier weeks of the Master Chief Collection saw a U-turn in my attitude toward the game. Maybe it was the fact that it was online, or the fact that I’ve gotten better at first person shooters since then, but it was a major step up from before. I was actually the best player in quite a few games I played, and the gameplay felt perfect. That is, until a more recent update.

While I am not familiar with the specifics of the game when it first released, I clearly see the difference in the pistol after you guys “improved hit detection”. It now feels severely overpowered, and I seem to be killed by it in a matter of seconds off spawn now. Before the update, it seemed to have a bit of a spread to it, and actually made the weapon feel much more balanced at both long range and short range (leaving it still very useful at mid range). I don’t know which of these was more accurate to the original game, but I can definitely say that I preferred the game significantly better before the patch.

Thing is, I’m sure that this isn’t going to change the game back to what it was before. But Halo 1 in the MCC has gone from being my go to choice, to being something I don’t want a part of. I’ll deal with whatever your decision is regarding it, but I figured I’d just put my thoughts out there.

But on a similar topic (and one I might be able to do something about), who thought it was a good idea to make the Halo 1 playlist 2v2? You said you based it off of player feedback, but that was before the game was even released! Well now this player is giving feedback saying that it should be 4v4 or 5v5. Making it practically a team doubles playlist causes the game to be filled with nothing but tryhards, leaving us more casual halo 1 players to not have a decent place to play Halo 1 objectives on smaller maps, or consistent Halo 1 matches. Please fix this! Usually I’d complain for something to be at the casual extreme side of things, but this is at the competitive and tryhard extreme side of things. I believe that increasing team size to 4v4 would strike a better balance between the two extremes, and be more fun overall for both parties.

Bump out of curiosity.
