Halo Community, I need your advice.
I’ve been playing the games since Halo 2, but only really played multiplayer. Played bits and pieces of the campaigns on all of them with friends, but never really paid much attention to the storylines as I was playing.
That said, I’d really like to go back and play all of those campaigns, but Halo: CE and Halo 2 do not appear to be supported by my XBox type. Wanted to know what alternative suggestions you guys have for getting to experience those storylines.
I have read a few paragraphs of some various Wiki pages, but want to do the games as much justice as possible.
Of course, I know there are obviously the Halo book series, but I have no clue how closely those follow the video game storylines.
Can any of you shed some light on this for me?
Thanks in advance!
if you have a harddrive you should be able to play halo 2 on your 360. otherwise. by anniversary(persaonally i think its worth the 30 bucks used) and if it comes down to it. you could always watch a full walkthrough with cutscenes on youtube or get hlao 2 vista.
Well for Halo: CE just get the new anniversary addition. Same thing just beefed up graphics. Don’t know for 2 tho i thought it was backwards compatible?

it is but you have to have an hdd i believe.
You can watch all of the Halo:CE cutscenes here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3tSN3L5InQ
You can watch all of the Halo 2 cutscenes here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrIrI4FJZ0A
You can watch all of the Halo 3 cutscenes here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN2u-PFgnc4
I also suggest reading Halo:The Flood which is the novel corresponding to Halo:CE.

this one’s for jenkins.
Also keep in mind the story of halo doesn’t always make sense. So many writers, artists, directors, and designers worked on these projects, there are giant plot holes everywhere. Halo 2 was supposed to be longer, but ran into dev problems. The books where all written by different authors, who don’t know each-others work nor the halo franchise. Dont expect to be any less confused when youre done.

it was done fairly well. and the biggest plot holes have either been fixed like with the new fall of reach or takes place in a time which hasnt been explored yet.
The Halo books go along with the games. The only book that matches up with game and does something a little different is “The Flood” which is essentially Halo 1. But they essentially begin and end the same sorta. Halo 4 is probably going to be more connected to the book then previous games. So the books would be a nice direction to head in if you want to get into the story more.
I really want to make a super dumbed down timeline of halo. cause its how i think and to more easily keep track and present the story.

just got done re-reading Fall of Reach and was wondering the same thing. Since the game Reach and the Fall of Reach both take place just before and just as Reach starts being Glassed. And there is a period of time when John doesnt have Cortana since she is still on the Pillar of Autumn (it did have its actual AI installed yet), Master Chief with Linda and James are on a mission above Reach seeking to destroy Navigation Data, and during that mission Captain Keys might have had enough time to get down on Reach Land, receive the Data fragment of Cortana from Noble 6, and quickly get out of there to pick up the Chief, escape and begin Halo 1.

This may be my best bet. Will check out your links.
Thanks, ShadowHawk, and all others who have commented!
Are you trying to play CE and 2 on the original Xbox? If you can play Halo 4, can you not buy Halo CEA on the 360?
Also, Halo: The Flood by William Dietz has the story of Halo CE with much more story. It was a decent novel.

The book the fall of reach is no longer cannon, the game overrules the book.
I believe you need a hard drive to play Halo 2 and CE proper, but you can also buy Anniversary; it’s the same game, but it has terminals, which also shed some light on the Halo storyline. For Halo 2, you will need the hard drive.
I’d also look on the Wikis; they streamline the story. That being said, I would only recommend that if you’ve also played the game.
