The 2 player co-op limit for halo ce and 2 is kind of ridiculous. I mean, the original one never could support online co-op, but 4 player splitscreen was the only option to play with more than 2 and the same applied for halo 2. Now it seems i might have to do that again, play the originals, except i dont want to. They should really ask the community about the player limit for the xbox one versions of halo ce and halo 2 campaigns. Should we stick with this for new generations to play and still have the 2 player limit on a new piece of hardware that can excel beyond the orginal xbox console in all ways or push the player limit that should encompass the max amount of players in campaign, on a new piece of hardware, again?
They’re not modifying the engine for Halo CE and Halo 2 so players can still enjoy the classic experience.
Could they add this? Sure, but I highly doubt they want to go and make some code changes that could potentially mess with other stuff, and lets not forget trying to mess around with 10+ year old code.
I will miss the option for 4-player splitscreen, but I usually just play 2-player splitscreen, so it won’t make that much of a difference to me.
Hopefully 3 and 4 maintain 4-player co-op. Can’t leave out Arby’s elite buddies! For 1 and 2, keeping 2-player is understandable with the amount of other stuff they are keeping the same.
H1 and 2 have 2 player co-op and H3 and 4 have for player co-op just like the older versions
> H1 and 2 have 2 player co-op and H3 and 4 have for player co-op just like the older versions
As far as I know this will be the case. I feel like they don’t want to mess with the code for any of the 4 games anymore than they need to so whatever it was like in the original version, that it how it will be. The question that still remains is how they will treat this within the new user-interface. My guess is it will be like in matchmaking lobbies where if we’re in a party of 4 and try to launch CEA or H2A which are limited to 2 players then it will give us an another one of those “too many players” errors and won’t launch.

Potentially mess with other stuff? If they add four player splitscreen instead of the online coop player limit i thought was good, ill be set for my family sharing one screen, instead of two tv sets, two xbox one consoles helping each other get through the campaign together. Some members really cant afford an xbox one console and some risk is better for that extra amount of fun in campaign on legendary.

A code is a fragile thing.
If they add 4 player co-op to Halo CE and Halo 2, it could potentially break something else in the game. Something insignificant that’s overlooked that can become a game crash in some cases. Memory leaks etc.
Let’s say there are 4 players. BUM! Something explodes and 3 of them are dead. What happens then? Lets talk something simple: as there are no enough respawn points nearby (because 343i is working on already done levels, instead of remaking each level), 1 of these players will respawn at the same moment at the same point as other player and game crushes. Or game will look for respawn point elsewhere, beyond of part of level that is currently loaded and game crushes. Or anything else… and game crushes because of 1000 reasons we didn’t even thinked of.
It’s much better to cut something entirely than release it broken (as example of Halo 4’s Forge shows up).
Im just saying they should consider adding it. My friends and i didnt like the way they implemented halo 1’s player limit, some missions really need three players to finish it, not 2. And with halo 2 on legendary? It really is a pain playing it solo.
But never the less fun.
While 4 players on CE and 2 would be nice, it could end up breaking the code. You also have to consider certain elements of some missions such as the second mission Halo in CE only supplying a single warthog at the start, thus causing the 4th player to travel on foot as adding a second vehicle could cause some problems if having more than 2 players doesn’t already cause an issue.
I should have titled this as halo 2 4 player co-op limit. Im more geared for halo 2, not cea.
But in all seriousness, it’s up to them if they should add it, not me. Im just a guy with a mind, and a dream, who rarely posts.

If they take away four player co-op in H3, we will lose two very unique characters that never really had a chance for proper development. Perhaps we will see them in a H2:A Terminal?

Coding in general is like playing a massive game of whack a mole, you fix one bug/glitch, 3 or more could pop up somewhere else that you could swear has NOTHING to do with the bug/glitch you just fixed. And that’s when you have fairly new engine of a game that hasn’t gone gold yet. They’re dealing with a game engine that’s gone gold, the slightest code change could cause more work than it’s worth, plus it could, as stated before, mess with the original feel of the game.
Also, Metal Dune, I much rather they NOT add four player splitscreen instead of online coop, not only because of what I and others have pointed out, BUT, also because I honestly don’t have the splitscreen setup, and most of the people I game with, don’t live less than a day’s drive away. Hell I got friends who are stuck in Korea, and the chance for me and them to jump onto some old school Halo, and kick some alien butt, is our way of kicking back and hanging out.

How do you know they didn’t consider adding it? I mean, let’s be honest here, Halo CEA, they looked into it, and based off of what they’ve said thus far, and the fact that it doesn’t have 4 player CoOp, but online, we can only guess that they wasn’t able to do so with out breaking the game farther than it was worth, IE causing massive amounts of game breaking glitches. I wouldn’t of put it past the team working on Halo 2 A to at least try making it work, but the bottom line is, how much modification needs to take place, in order for it to work. It’s not a simple click of a button, if the original Engine was not designed and set up for 4 player coop, it’s very unlikely it’d be able to be modified to better support 4 player coop.
Now, if 343i went in and did one of two things: #1 recreate Halo 2 from scratch #2 make DLC campaigns from scratch to be added to either Halo 4 or Halo 5, then they could get away with 4 player CoOP.
