Had a HORRIFYING thought (Infection is in danger)

So, I noticed that 343 like to put a “theme” to their content drops. Cartographer’s Gift, names such because it brought Forge (Cartographer) and came out in December/Christmas (Gift). Infinity’s Armory, as it turns out, in bulk contains mostly weapons, weapon skins, and a few new armors (things in an armory). Battle of Shadow and Light brought… Big Team Battle (Battle?) and, uh… yeah, I actually have no idea where the “Shadow and Light” business came from.

But that’s not the thing that worries me.

What worries me is that if these regular updates really are scheduled to hit for at least a year, that would mean there would be an October 2016 update as the LAST update. October… Haloween… zombies. Upon connecting the dots, I realized there could be a chance that Infection, a treasured and near essential gametype for custom games, could be saved for an October update just to satisfy some sick title pun.

343 presents the October update, “The Final Outbreak” featuring the return of Infection, a Flood themed arena map, and a Warzone assault variant of the Warzone map we released last month. PLUS LOOK AT ALL THESE FUN HALLOWEEN SKINS AND EMBLEMS GUYS!

Please God, let me be wrong.

I think that the support of the game is only mentioned to last 'till June.

Holy yoink you might be right. If they are sick enough to do that…oh there will be hell.

I heard that, but the last time I saw that on these forums someone angrily corrected them that support would last through the year. I’m not sure which it is, but frankly if Infection is the final update to the game, whether it be June or October, I’d be upset that my favorite gametype and one of the major backbones of custom games was so low on the priority list.

…dang

You are probably right my friend. I for one know for sure this is going to happen… And it’s kind of sad that they’re holding back gametypes to be highlighted features of these, “content drops” I don’t mind that they’re doing this, but they’re taking awhile… If game modes are to be the main features and highlight of a content drop then I might as well drop the game for a few months…

But I can bet $100 that the “gametype” they’re dropping is at the end of February is Grifball, or Ricochet… Which have been teased for months with the Gravity hammer, and what looks to be a Bomb/Ball… But you know… I’m glad 343 held this gametype back, just in time for the Super Bowl!!! /s

I really hope this is not the case, but what’s left? If we’re going to be honest?

-Januarary: Infinity’s Armory. Bunch of REQs, Fathom Remix, BoN WA variant.

-February: Griffball/ Ricochet theme REQs and sadly an accompanying “map” too for SuperBowl 2016 (Keep in mind ricochet released for Halo 4 around the same time too.) Colosseum or Rig remix.

-March: Maybe Infection? Due to high demand. Maybe a suite of missing gametypes, Colosseum or Rig remix. Saint Patrick’s day, lots of green, and Irish inspired REQs as well as a Frank O’Connor/ Beamish Skin. More Mister Chief.

-April: Gametype or Infection theme, suite of missing gametypes. A few maps or Warzone map. APRIL FOOLS!! Just MORE REQs!

-May: Warzone theme for Memorial Day? New maps? Memorial Day, support our troops with a limited edition REQ pack.

-June: Finally new original maps and gametype cleanup. Halo Wars 2 themed? Just in time for E3…

The list above is just my own speculation, but I wanted to create my own thread but I might as well should just post it here… If I need to, I’ll make my own thread to try and spread the word.

but you’re right OP, let’s hope 343 isn’t going down this road, although it seems as if it’s already too late…

I reallllyyy want infection on H5

It mentioned up to June 2016, but also states that dates are subject to change. It more of a legal thing to cover all bases, there’s more than a good chance that we’ll see more content through E3 and beyond. Might even be some big announcements for Halo 5 at E3, never know

I hope you are the wrongest most delusioned person… Cause I need infection ;-;

Infection is zombies. You know what season is great for zombies? Spring! Rejuvenation, rebirth, all that crap. /Costanza

I believe the official statement was that the free DLC lasts till June. Typically Halo DLC schedules run through 2 years, IIRC. Maybe they extend free DLC past the one year mark and didn’t want to over promise, maybe they return to paid DLC after year one (I doubt, at least as far as multiplayer is concerned).

I approve of this comment. I hope that infection does come back. 343 has done a lot of damage to the community, and really can’t afford to damage it more.

Light and dark probably because it had ninja like armor and a lightrifle, ninja shadows etc.

They say till june because fiscal year

I don’t believe they are going to start putting out paid DLC. They made a big thing about keeping the player base together in their Game Informer article last year, so I can’t see them dropping that model in June to split populations again. They still make a point of emphasising with each update that the content is free (inb4 req pack sales :P) Reading over it again their promise was to deliver 15 additional maps, on top of the number Halo 5 shipped with, by June of this year. Still looking for the stuff that mentions dates being subject to change though, it’s small print somewhere I just can’t remember where haha

In that case let’s hope that March is called the “Guinness and Green” update

I was actually thinking of doing a thread to guess the name/themes of the next few updates too. Would start an office pool if I had an office and new peoeple in real life who played halo 5.

My guess for Feb:

“Love of the Game” (to coincide with both Valentine’s Day (Love) and the Superbowl (Game). Griffball/Ricochet. Return/updateof Ricochet armor (Ultra Rare REQ). Map remix and new Warzone map. Oh, and lots of Cosmetic REQs.

Right, that’s why I doubt they change to paid DLC for multiplayer. Only thing I could see being paid DLC is a Spartan Ops or Firefight mode, or a campaign DLC, which is something Halo hasn’t done so I doubt they start now.

> They say till june because fiscal year

Okay, I had no clue Microsoft’s fiscal year ended June 30. Buncha weirdos. Though, at least that’s a clean break. Working for entities with August 31 FY ends was a pain to track quarters.

Let me just say that 343 would be insane, literally insane to not release it at least before summer starts. Kids love infection, that’s a fact. Kids (meaning teenagers as well) are it’s target playerbase, kids get out of school for summer. It would be an abomination, one up there with the other great video game failures in history, to not release it before summer. I wouldn’t be able to comprehend the reasoning behind it.

Also,

> May: Warzone theme for Memorial Day? New maps? Memorial Day, support our troops with a limited edition REQ pack.

They would never do this, the game is made for the global audience, memorial day is a holiday only in our country and flooding the REQs with skins from only our military would be bad business practice. They get away with it for christmas because it’s universally celebrated (although with some variations).
