Long time Halo Wars veteran here (still to this day)
First and foremost the beta client itself is broken. Shame on you guys. Now that that’s out of the way,the good stuff.
Its decent at what we are looking at but there’s a lot that needs to be addressed. I’ll bullet point them out to save you time.
-needs more zoom out
-needs more player color. Hard to tell partner apart from own units as blue/red
-sometimes units are unresponsive.
-glad to see you added another resource e that’s required, keep it
-covenenat as is, is weak. Even massed
-only 1 Spartan? Really?
-can we not get a legacy control scheme? Because this one sucks
-scouts can’t pick up resources anymore? Why?
-i gotta manually build my hero as a covenant? Cut it out
-bases shouldn’t automatically come with turrets. If you get rushed then that’s on you stop making it casual friendly
-vanilla Marines/grunts walk way too fast.
Other than that it’s good. Everything feels heavy and clean cut. The tanks are brutal. Artillery shakes it up. Some of the newer units are a big why but it’s good.
EDIT: forgot to mention these stupid halo 5 ranks. Drop it. Keep the true skill numbers
EDIT2: I forgot to mention only being limited to 1 ODST. I hope this is only a beta limit, and can be upgraded dependant on your commander, bit id also like to point out that the brutes power being limited to a specific tree and limited wheel is heavily constricting too. These should all be either upgrades or weak right out of the get go.
I agree with you on almost all counts, I haven’t had any problems collecting resources with my scout besides the general unreliability of the UI commands/selection. Marines and Grunts are definitely too fast right now, I was unable to kite the starting marines with a two wraith tanks and light attention to micro because they charged them down so surprisingly quickly.
Camera zoom, I’m glad you said it because I was the only one mentioning it before now and was starting to wonder if I was imagining it.
I do believe the turrets are automatically spawning on the base because of the rather large military you start with in this game mode to prevent early aggression in a game mode designed around moving your army out and capturing points to win instead. Hoping that is the case at least.

Tanks are hard to kite too. And again I hope we are only getting a slice here. As far as the resource collecting with warts/choppers it simply won’t go for me. An upgraded jackrabbit will however.
My take on the turrets I believe is because of this game mode. Why didn’t they set it as a standard skirmish? No one knows but I hope that domination doesn’t become a standard.
