I know the tiny vocal minority that huddles here and on reddit Halo like to scream about how amazing H5’s gameplay is while they come up with their top 100 excuses for why h4/5 couldn’t hold a population higher than Viva Pinata, but let’s get real here.
The gameplay is a mess.
You start with sprint in a game with average kill times up around 2 full seconds. Literally every other dev in the history of the earth knows this is a horrendous mix. Literally no FPS game ever made outside of H4 and H5 spawn you with sprint in a game with kill times that long. It doesn’t work. At all. Due to the kill times being so long sprint only serves to make the gameplay feel clunky, disjointed and ironically slow as hell. If you have a game with insta or near insta kill times, sure sprint is a great mechanic. Not for games with 1-2 full second TTks though. Come on 343, this is babies’ first game design stuff.
Auto weapons are just ridiculously overpowered compared to how easy they are to use. Why can’t these weapons have less aim assist or smaller reticules? They’re so easy to use and so powerful that it just makes the game boring as hell to play once you get past the entrance level skill meta.
The hitboxes, especially in regards to the sniper just don’t literally work. They somehow made the most fun weapon in Halo history feel clunky and broken.
Last but certainly not least…the aiming. How? HOW??? Halo quite literally pioneered dual stick aiming. How the -Yoink- do you mess it up? HOW?

Uh oh, might want to prepare for an onslaught. But for real though, halo 5s gameplay isn’t that great, but some of the things you listed are mainly opinions. To me the game play doesn’t feel clunky, I just feel like I’m always chasing someone. Auto weapons are close quarters weapons, that’s where they excel. If you’re getting cross map killed either the other guy is really good, or it might be on your end. Hitboxes and deadzones were a problem and truthfully I’m unsure if they still are, I haven’t played arena in a while. Most of your problems are mainly opinions, halo has shields which gives us longer life span than cod or battlefield so your 1.5-2 second kill time is still pretty quick, at least that’s my opinion on it. I’d say there’s only one real issue here maybe and that’s the hitboxes. But I’ll repeat myself again. It’s My Opinion.

1- They can easily challenge the pistol outside of close range with ADS and crouch bonuses.
2- Even in close range they’re too powerful for how easy they are to use. Even the shotgun, which is a power weapon has more cons to it compare to the SMG and SR.

This is what happens when I read things too quickly.
Anyways, I don’t see how Sprint makes things completely “clunky, disjointed and ironically slow”. I would be happier with a higher base speed and no sprint, but that’s just personal preference. The closest I see is how it stretches out maps to accommodate for it, which thank God we aren’t doing the same vertically because of Jetpacks like Reach & 4. And sprint can barely be used in a gunfight anyway, because one it’s started, getting hit by a shot takes you out of half-sprint and you’re moving normal speed again.
And if anything, people are saying that the average TTK is too fast because of the hitbox and bullet magnetism.

Less aim assist doesn’t change much, Halo 5 already has little aim assist and you’re firing multiple shots is rapid succession. Maybe less bullet magnetism is what you’re looking for?
Wouldn’t a smaller reticule just make the gun more accurate over a distance? You’d be better off just increasing the bloom.

The pistol is meant for close to mid range, same for the assault rifle and you’re upset that close quarters weapons are good at close quarters. The shotgun is meant only for close quarters while the smg can be used for a variety of situations, That’s why the smg has more pros.
EDIT: I also just looked up your profile and your only level 7…are you just trolling or do you have actual criticisms? You don’t really have the type of experience i was expecting from when you made this thread. I was expecting a 100+ level character or at least 50 or somethin.

so you suck at the game, then get good or play another game. No it’s not the previous halo games, you have to adapt to each new halo. I’m enjoying it quite well. I know how to kill just fine. And if someone escapes my shot because of sprint then I need to get closer. It’s no cod where sprint sucks and you kill everyone in 1 shot. The gameplay is awesome.
my only complaint is we dont have 2 player split screen.

Is halo 5 perfect? Heck no! But it’s not awful. Before you say I’m a 343I defender, know that I’ve been one of the many harshest critic out there. A few things I’ve called them out on are Rank resets, ADS style zooming animation, ADS giving buffs, maps that lack interactive environments elements like H2A, Map remixes/forge maps being called DLC and so on. I could name many more things. I even agree with many things you’ve said here like autos being too powerful because of ADS. I hate ADS!!!
My point is, If you don’t like it fine, but there is no need to to make a new thread about something that I’m sure you’ve said countless times before. Your better then that man.
The kill-times are long? That’s news to me… maybe you should stop missing shots lol.
Gameplay is the primary thing H5 did RIGHT… and thankfully so! The series’ story is going nowhere, fast… and when it’s lacking so many modes and features, the gameplay being great at least gives you something playable and good to latch on to.
If I thought the gameplay sucked, I certainly wouldn’t still be playing this game…
