After I watched the H5G mutliplayer in action it is apparent to me that H5G takes the standards set by classic PC arena shooters to the next level.
- High speed movement
- Risk vs reward abilities
- Power weapons spawns that lead to map control
The Problem is Halo wasn’t exactly a true Arena with it’s original games because Halo’s movement speeds were slower and precision weapons were favored in development over high rate AR weapons when compared to fast fire weapons in most Classic PC Arena games.
I always felt the closest game to Halo was Counter Strike. But, it also had some Quake / UT qualities. I like what I am seeing so far with Halo 5. I loved the old school UT dash jump, and I welcome it in Halo. I feel Halo 5 is taking the best Halo aspects from its past, mixed with what is popular now, dropping what has not worked, and also combining concepts which have worked well in other arena shooters.
I am looking forward to it.
I wouldn’t say it took Arena “to the next level”. Halo 5 isn’t as good an arena shooter as, say, Quake or Toxikk. But it’s definitely shaping up to be miles ahead of Halo 4.
