H5G $75

I, for one would like it if they raised Halos price point with the intention of forcing every player to download new maps when they come out. Basically a mandatory season pass. It seems to me that whenever new maps come out it either splits the community up or I don’t get to play on them often. It seemed like most H2 players had all or most of the maps, and it declined from there with time.

Basically I have been trying to come up with a way to force everyone to have all the maps and this is the best I could come up with besides making them free. I know its not realistic, and it may not even be a problem to some people that don’t care about new maps but it is something that has been on my mind.

Edit: A benefit I thought of: if everyone would have to buy it they could lower the cost of the map packs/person. For example I believe map packs are normally $15. If they were to charge everyone once $15, they might have enough profit to lower the map costs to $5.

Also, I see my idea is not very popular at all so far lol that’s fine but I was just posting a thought I had that makes sense from my individual perspective. No need to attack me!

I’m sorry, but I cannot agree with this. It’s a very interesting idea, but with games already being as expensive as they already are, adding an extra fifteen dollars is a lot. There’s plenty of people who would rather spend their sixty dollars and be done with it, and people don’t always wish to buy DLC. Forcing a mandatory DLC price on a game that isn’t out yet is not only poor business strategy, but it would also be quite a bad thing to do. With how much people dislike the idea of “Day One Downloads”, having a preemptive price point slung onto your game, forcing you to spend an extra fifteen bucks that you might be unwilling to spend, or otherwise incapable of spending, could easily lower the amount of sold copies of the game.

Easy: 343 needs to give free maps (nobody played on halo 4 dlc maps)

This. I think free DLC maps is good for business. It will keep people interested in the game without spending money. Which means people will tend to send out good propaganda to friends catering more and more players to the game.

What do you mean “raise Halos price”? Outside of the US, the game already costs more than that. If I were to buy the game, I’d have to pay 70€ (~80$) for it. I have to work two days to make that much money. $75 would be a price drop over here…

And this is the same price of the last releases. If anything, we should have already gotten free season passes years ago, back when Bungie was still at the helm…

I think it’s worth noting that 343 and Microsoft are very tightly linked. As such, there’s a good incentive for 343 to release free (or at least inexpensive) DLC maps; it’ll boost XBL players, and hence increase Microsoft’s profits. This wouldn’t matter to an independent studio, but as 343 are simply a division of Microsoft, that knock-on benefit works as an incentive for them.

They could just make the free.

Or they could make maps free and make a lot of cosmetic downloads. Raising the price in what is a mandatory season pass is a great way to piss people off and not sell the game.

Or here’s an idea. Anyone who pre-orders gets the season pass? There’s an incentive…not “get this multiplayer armor/weapon skin that’ll be put on sale for a dollar or two down the road.”

Yes Halo 3 did it and it worked, but the consumer market is very different now. MS already had to deal with all the DRM negativity crap and got flak for microtransactions, why piss people off even more and make mandatory DLC?

People will always dislike the concept of DLC as you spend money on a complete game, only to realize that two months later, you no longer have a complete gamr

Wow.

Screw you. That’s all.

Forcing everyone to pay more to convenience you because you want to play on DLC maps more? The selfishness is impressive. Here’s an idea, all the maps are free because they -Yoinked!- up MCC so bad. I couldn’t care less about ODST anyways.

I also want homies to be able to eat on DLC and not have the same launch maps for years like H4. Problem is ain’t nobody droppin $$$ on a lil bit of DLC multiple times these days. How bout 343 wait 6-12 months and then charge us a lil bit more for 3 map packs in one. Maybe even wait closer to 12 months and release expansion pack wit H5G side missions (think deleted scenes for movies) AND this DLC. I mean, they not releasing H6 or any other game in 2016 right? Use the same engine and cash in more…how bout $40-50 expansion pack + DLC?

Not that I need to justify my actions, but I perceive a problem with the DLC maps. In the same way it annoys you that I proposed forcing the purchase of DLC, it annoys me that I buy the maps and rarely if ever get to play on them. I was simply posting a potential answer to a grievance I have experienced in the past and was curious if the community would respond with better ideas than me or note that they share my frustration with DLC.

I apologize if I offended you in my doing so.

Don’t buy them. I haven’t bought DLC for a shooter since…I can’t even remember. It’s never worth it.

Maps should be free expansions. They can throw in DLC for weapon skins and armor or other dumb crap that people will buy if they want to make DLC money. Maps affect the game’s longevity and free maps are very beneficial.

NO. Make map packs free, and then if you want to make money, 343i, then make something worthwhile. Something like ODST that can be sold for $20.

“mandatory season pass”

GTFOH.
