H5 with elite controller impressions

Havnt really seen a thread here giving input about using an elite controller to help others decide if its worth the purchase (was sceptical until I tried my friends), so decided to give my impressions after a full week of use!

So first off, yes it does feel MUCH better when holding! Default controllers…I feel like I will break them. I probably could actually. This, nope I hold it and it feels solid and dense. The slight weight actually helps as well. Not in a bad way though. The slight weight just makes it feel more sturdy.

Using the sticks feel so smooth when rotating them at full range. All my previous xb1 controllers (3) all had a weird drag from the stick interacting with each other due to friction. This just glides, which surprisingly took a few minutes to get used to it.

So for the customization. Well I guess that would depend on ho you would want to do it so can only give my input based on my play style and what im comfortable with.

So I use hairline triggers on both triggers,
Left stick default
Right stick raised
All 4 paddles on back, mapped to abxy.
Halo 5 controller settings
Sensitivity 3. Acceleration 2 0 deadzones in both inner and outter. Bumper jumper
The result, my thumbs dont really EVER leave the sticks anymore, except to switch grenades. The result, I can focus almost entirely on my aim and strafing whem in a firefight, without worrying about needing to hit abxy. I fell I really play better specifically because I can always make minute aiming adjustments. Im getting more perfects as a result.

Another good benefits, if I am avoiding a vehicle and they get close to me, I can FINALLY aim with look and just hold “b trigger” to make sure I am always looking in the right direction. I can jack vehicles a lot better, assuming they are within range.

Getting used to the paddles in the back did take about 2 days to adjust to, trying to coordinate them in combat. Doing one thing alone, fine. Starting on pegasus and sprinting to the br, switching to pistol to drop for br…eh, horrible for 2 days. Now I can do tjat no problem, and still easily aim at the door for an enemy

All in all, if you want a more comfortable controller, and really be able to play with a bit more, fluidity (?) Absolutely worth it.

It wont make you a much better player automatically just by having it, just makes I a bit better for how you play because you can customize it.

Tl;dr. Took about 2 days to adjust but feels much better playing and aiming is smoother just because thumbs never leave sticks!

I can’t get used to the back paddles

Well thats the beauty of it, you dont need them! I always felt that taking ny thumb off the sticks made me slightly less accurate, and apparently it did.

As I said, paddles took me a full 2 days to adjust to. And I was off work both days. So like 12ish hours?

one of my buddies cant adjust to all 4, but just 2 actually feels best for him. Just find what feels best for you

i have the elite controller and its awesome. because i dont get to play as often as i like , i usually take a few rounds for my hands to adjust/get used to the controller, but once i’m warm its like buttahh

i use all 4 paddles,

TR- melee
BR- jump
TL- boost
BL- reload

I got one last month and in my opinion … it’s so worth it. the ultimate gaming item!

I only use 2 paddles, since I am using the Skull Candy headset … no regret … and highly recommend to the serious gamer!
I use it all the time … after 4 - 7 straight hours … I can still feel the difference … and so worth it…!!

The elite one is so great!
After some thumbstick sensitivity changes (new Xbox one app), and button mapping, I can say it’s definitely worth to buy!
My setup for now:
TL- thruster pack
TR- crouching, for fast crouch strafe.
Bumper Jumper
4 sensitivity
2 acceleration
0 deadzones
normal sticks with smooth option on right stick.

Question, which fingers hit the buttons on the bottom? I didn’t even know this existed, but I can certainly see the benefit after a learning curve.

Thanks for this thread! Finally read about how halo 5 goes with elite controller. Next would be Halo Reach!

Index fingers for triggers and bumpers.

Middle fingers for the paddles labelled as P1 and P2.
Ring fingers for the paddles labelled as P3 and P4.

The last and smallest of your fingers should be resting on your controller all the time.

I’m so getting one of these, when I’m not so strapped for the money… Are they still $275?

I use my middle and ring fingers. Some trial and error with the mapping but I settled in with boost on the lower right paddle and swap weapons on the lower left paddle. The lower paddles are larger and it was just more reflexive for me to have these actions (which always seem like the can’t happen fast enough!) done this way.

The only action I find a challenge still is sorting through grenade types. Must need a 5th paddle!

Had my elite since halo launch, does take some getting used too especially after years of predefined muscle memory. But all in all the best controller I have ever wielded.

fyi if you use the trigger stops you will need to adjust the trigger sensitivity from 0-20 to 0-10 so that you can charge up the plasma pistol or caster.

They never were that much. 149.99

I play bumper jumper, so it’s weird remapping weapon swap and interaction to the back pedals for me…

That controller is everything. It’s just perfect

Trying this setup tonight. I have been using Thruster and Sprint on my paddles. What is your left trigger mapped to?

Nades.

Epic controller i only use two paddles though for a and b

Well for me my middle finger is for the top paddles and my ring finger is the bottom paddles. With how I hold the control to begin with its sorta rests in my palm and pinky finger. I did think that would be an issue, nope not at all.

And yeah I wouldnt say learning curve, since its customizable, more like a readjustment period. I can now play h5 without thinking about translating paddles to things, but then jump back into assassins creed using the face buttons instead.

To be honest I wouldnt expect it to play any differently. I played a bit of 2anniversary and just played it like 2a. Ce as well so reach should be about the same really.

I can go back and play reach and see how it feels though and give my impressions for each game if youd like. 5 is just the newest one so i used it. But I didnt play ce or 2 any differently. Just again, I can aim a bit better while doing other things.
