I haven’t been on the forums much lately and I can’t find a thread similar to this one:
After Halo 4, we seem to have a split community on the new halo 4/infinity settings vs reach vs halo 2/3. There is debate over the inclusion of armor abilities, their balance and niche, over ordnance and their randomness, weapons balance, the inclusion of perks and sprint and other halo characteristics like movement speed and jump height.
I would like to make this post to bring about the communities ideas on how to balance these to a point where we can reach sort of an agreement (although kind of impossible)
I for one love all these settings and it depends on my mood on what setting to play. I would like halo 5 to have a lot of these settings for example in team slayer have going options for halo 3 style, reach style and halo infinity/new halo 5 additions. I don’t want split playlists but rather options in the playlist. Possibly more voting options? As for objective, I prefer halo 3 and reach settings. I want a new invasion back, race, territories, and pretty much all of the old playlist and new ones at launch. I think it will be possible with the dedicated servers.
Post your ideas on how to incorporate your preferences into playlists and how 343 can address the great diversity of opinions regarding halos evolved gameplay over the years.
Ranked:
- No Sprint.
- No Loadouts
- Weapons on map.
- Armor abilities would be pick ups on the map.
- Camo and Overshield on map
Social:
- No sprint
- No Loadouts? As it destroyes Halo’s magnificent experimental Sandbox I want to say no, but I am undecided.
- Weapons on map
- Players have the ability to choose their Armor Ability.
- Camo and Overshield on the map.
Let me use of a cave to explain this; I will use another means. A child believes in the myth of Santa Claus, a child has good reason to suppose this myth is true, it is inculcated when he receives Christmas presents, the media, family and friends consolidate the belief, the child even writes to Santa Claus and receives a reply. On Christmas Day this belief becomes a ‘reality’. Through education and maturity, the child will have doubts as to the truth of this illusion. At some stage during the transition from childhood to adulthood he will acknowledge the illusion, and further, during parenthood the myth really comes home to roost as knowledge and absolute truth. (He now has a choice; he can put an end to the myth or continue the cycle) What is distinctive regarding each stage, is how far they have come out of the cave. Through illusion and belief to knowledge.
This is Platos explanation for why he thinks philosophers should rule and why I think players with more knowledge should decide when it comes to gameplay mechanics.

Sounds good. I like it. That’s for slayer only obviously. Would you want sprint as an armor ability or eliminated all together?
Here is my take… assume no perks and no ordinance in multiplayer. I like sprint so I vote it stays in some form or another.
Ranked
- Visible in game rank tailored separately to slayer and objective game types.
- map ordinance
- map powerups
- restricted AA use (open to interpretation… longer recharge timer, shorter duration, etc).
- predefined loadouts with no perks
- 4v4, 8v8 slayer & objective
- limited voting options
- restricted sprint or no sprint… not sure how to restrict, but most competitive crowd hates it so
Social
- unrestricted AA use
- unrestricted loadout options (no perks)
- 2x6 (or 4x3), 4v4 & 8v8 slayer, objective, or action sack
- Action sack encompasses Grifball & all other wacky gametypes
- more robust voting options
I will always say that segmenting the population is a terrible idea but since I know that 343 will not remove the features they added then I guess segmenting is better than nothing.
Ranked would be playlists comprised of classic Halo gameplay and Social would be where all of the new features would be.

The answer is to take sprint out. It would help the developers and balance the game. In the end, I think that decision is better for us all.
I see a common trend with the community:
We want a ranked playlist Halo 3 style and a social playlist with some of the infinity settings implemented.
I highly agree with this and think it will keep Halo rolling over the years. I want Halo to be fun with a large population.
