Halo 5 overall is a decent game. We have to take into consideration that the game isn’t fully finished. The gameplay is nice and smooth. I might say its a fast paced game but the ranks should be something we cherish. The whole “SR” isn’t and hasn’t been working out to well since Reach. I speak for the competitive community when I say " Your rank should be earned like in the military. I see no fun in playing if everyone can rank up just by playing. It will become to repetitive and fans will be lost. Bring back the H3 ranking system or even the H2 ranking system but give us something to brag about. Halo 5 NEEDS a competitive playlist like HALO 3. We don’t want “Competitive” feeling like H3 social. BRING BACK RECRUIT- 5 STAR GENERAL 1-50 BACK IN THE PICTURE. HOW MANY OF YOU FANS AGREE. IM SPEAKING FOR MY COMPETITIVE PEOPLE!
It has a competitive ranking system. You play 10 games to be placed in a division, then try to rank up with wins like h2 and h3.
From what I understand you can achieve any rank if you gain enough exp.
the ‘rank’ is just a number that doesn’t affect the symbol beside your name. To see the players rank number you need to go find it.
I whole heartedly agree to bring back the halo 3 ranking system.
SR is just for cosmetic unlocks as far as I can tell… It means nothing for competitive play. The new ranked teir system is similar but way better than 1-50, and also very similar to the most popular ESports out there.
Part of the point of trying to get higher ranks is that you can show off what you have worked hard to earn. Cosmetics are obviously what you show off.
I mean I understand the ranking. But it should be a permanent rank you know. I remember I use to play H3 for hours sometimes days to get my 50 and the best part was that not everyone was able to attain one. It made the game so much better! The game itself is good. It has the need to control power weapons again which means the fight to death for the sniper. But in the rank…I feel like they could do so much better. Private colonel Leuitenant Brig…etc. Just my opinon

That’s exactly how I feel. Ppl would fear high ranks in the past games lol

No. Your Competitive Spartan Rating and your Spartan Rank are not the same thing at all. One is based on your performance, the other is mostly just a matter of time investment. You will not get a better competitive rating by just playing a bunch of games. The competitive ranking system in Guardians is better than H3’s system.
We are all going to have different opinions but this isn’t to argue. Its a discussion. We will have to agree to disagree at times
I agree with the OP about bringing back, specifically, the 1-50 representation. While I understand that the game currently does have a Skill Rank that goes up and down based on wins and losses, the way it’s represented in symbols (bronze, silver, gold etc) is simply not as powerful or satisfying to see (for me at least) than a simple 1-50.
Also, the fact that there are so many threads like this, and the fact that so many people simply do not seem to understand that there is, in fact, a competitive skill ranking system in place, is not a good sign.
I know it’s a divisive issue and there are plenty who champion this latest system, but, speaking purely for myself and as someone who’s been playing these games (single & multiplayer) since the debut of Halo 1, a return of the 1-50 representation of rank is literally the only thing I want to change about this game. It’s instantly understood, it motives, and it makes players feel better about what they’re accomplishing.
Perhaps I’m just out of touch, but I can’t help but see these symbols as a way to make higher ranks seem less intimidating.
Back in the day, you saw a 50, you knew you were in for a great fight. I see an Onyx…I shrug. I might just have to adapt, but this is one part of the game that’s so simple, so powerful, and it’s hard to see it go.

I couldn’t have said it any better!
It’s pretty much the same principle as 1-50 except with tiers. You rank up with a win, down with a loss. It’s almost the exact same as 1-50, just names instead of numbers. I think that’s really nit-picky to complain about.

I’ll be intimidated when I see a # in H5, cause that means they’re one of the Top 200 (Pro), and I think Semi-Pro will be similar to the Top 40’s/50 since not many players will obtain that either in the long run…
However, I do wish the 1/2/3 of the regular ranks (ex, Onyx 1-3) would show along with the rank symbol…
