When you show up, do you just wait in line and hold your spot in a big line, or do you pay for your game fully beforehand and receive a ticket/number etc in which to come back and get your game with? I’ve searched around and found both of these answers and I’m not sure which one it is. Thanks
I went to a GameStop during the afternoon that halo 4 came out trying to buy it and they wouldn’t sell me one because they were reserved so I assume you buy it in advance and bring in your receipt

I already went in an preordered and put money down, but do we have to wait in a line or can we check in and leave, then come back at midnight to pick it up? I’ve heard people explain that they go into GameStop and get a number, and they are allowed to leave, then once midnight rolls around GameStop lines everyone up by number and distributes the games. Is that true?
It depends on where you go it from. GameStop you show up a couple hours early and get a receipt whit a group number and sometimes a number under the group meaning you are 1,2,3… Then you show up at the given time and you can pay off the game then or pick it up if you have paid it off when its your turn.
When it comes to midnight launches in there it’s from store to store some stores have Have another I go to EB games Australia Store near where I live and sometimes it’s based on the EB World card level based on or what Edition of the game you getting or is the way people lined up that decide who gets to go in first but they do let people pay off their pre-orders if they have not already paid it off before lining up or anything like that so again it is pending on the place that you go to the midnight launch at the Best way to find out what’s happening at a midnight launch is is just ask the manager of the store that you going to sometimes but generally they will have information on what’s happening how this and that works Store so just ask around the store that you going to well if you’re going to the midnight Launch
It is both of the answers you found as stores like to have both opinions available and it allows them to go though customers a lot quicker. It also depends on what you want to do as you may want to get out of there as soon as it hits midnight or you don’t mind waiting with other fans to get the game.
I plan on showing up at around 10, I don’t really mind waiting there. I’m getting my game from GameStop btw
Thank you everyone for the info!

When I went to the one for GTA V I had pre-ordered, but those who hadn’t paid at the counter and if they ran out of spares it was only pre ordered copies left and tough luck to everyone else. I assume it will be like that so get there early. But it may vary between retailers.
