H5:G cutscenes to match Halo 2: A?

Upon seeing the movie-like Halo 2: Anniversary cutscenes (developed by Blur studios) in a YouTube trailer, it definitely raises the bar for the Halo 5: G cutscenes. I don’t doubt that Halo 5: Guardians can match it, however I’m just a little concerned there could be too much of an unrealistic contrast between the gameplay and the movie-like cutscenes.

Do you guys think they should keep the cutscenes and gameplay for Halo 5: G at a similar level, or go all-out with the cutscenes?
(Keeping in mind we haven’t seen any Halo 5: G gameplay yet; it could be as life-like as the cutscenes themselves)

Cheers, Ley Machine57.

Well, remember the Halo 5:G Beta trailer? that trailer wasn’t a CGI, It was In-engine, which means that you will see Halo5G graphics really close to that, In fact there are rumours that the game looks as good as the Halo 4 CGI, not surprised though, just look at what 343 did with a 10-year old console.

Halo 2 Anniversary and Cinematics have the same artstyle and colorscheme so In that term they will look very similar, also the graphics look pretty awesome, slightly better than Halo 4 IMO.

Wow I had no idea, I thought it was all CGI.

lol. That trailer was clearly CGI.

And I much would prefer in engine cut scenes over CG.

Um…no. The Halo 5 trailer was 100% CGI crafted by Axis Animation.

On topic: The way it was done in Halo 4 is fine, if they are going to do it like that in Halo 5, then i’m not complaining.

At the same time, the initial E3 Gameplay Reveal of H2 looked leaps & bounds better than the finished product. As did the cutscenes trailer where chief rides the bomb.

Remember, H5 is a year away, all material represents a work in progress.

I kind of hope not. I prefer in engine cut scenes, the transition is less jarring. Also, there just something about in engine cut scenes that are more impressive to me. I feel like a lot more work goes into them.

I’d be fine if they were pre renedered, but I just prefer in engine.

Could have sworn Blur did the cutscenes for Halo 4’s Spartan Ops. I know they did the cutscenes for Halo Wars.

Regardless, I’d like the majority of the cutscenes in Halo 5 to be in engine, with major cutscenes (like at the end/beginning of missions) to be Blur level. I think the Xbox One can do some impressive things for in engine cinematics.

I enjoy in-engine cutscenes too for the listed reasons - it is less jarring, it keeps you immersed, etc. But I really really loved the fancy cutscenes in H4 (and from what we’ve seen in H2A). There’s just something so… exciting about seeing a photorealistic Spartan II walking around. I could take them either way, but I lean towards the fancier cinematics between levels, and any in-level cutscenes as in-engine.

I hope so, Xbox One should be capable of it, it’s the next step.
I expect Halo 5’s in game graphics too look as good as Halo Wars CGI graphics.

I think it’s possible. Next Gen Halo awaits…

To be honest I want CGI Cinematics as well as in-engine… the thing being though, that although the Xbox One is powerful, in-engine will still be fairly different to CGI…
I wouldn’t actually mind an alternating system like the theatrical experience, but you can change to in-engine cutscene sorta bring that anniversary technology up to the present… either that or Blur Studios should actually remake all the cutscenes from Halo: Reach - Halo 6… and sell it on DVD… I’d definitely buy the Halo: Reclamation… story of John-117.

No, Dualshockers had an Interview with Bonnie Ross at gamescom about the trailer, she said that the trailer WAS IN-ENGINE  look it up.

nvm

Look at the graphics for when you can see Locke in the master chief collection original trailer, I’m pretty sure that is in engine and am also sure that it’s a cutscene. Look at it closely and it looks in engine.

I have to say I’m more partial to the direction cutscenes being delegated to companies like Blur studios, but of course keep the art style very similar to what you see in game. Spops didn’t do too bad in that department.

Halo 4s cutscenes looked great, too and I think that Blur will make the cutscenes for H5, too (They’ve done the ones for the spartan coop in H4, so thats possible)

While the Halo 2:A cutscense look amazing, I’d prefer the Halo 5 cutscenes to be in-game

Honestly it doesn’t matter to me either way, as long as if its in-game cutscenes it will match the amazing ones that we got in Halo 4. Halo has always had pretty terrible facial models and cutscene animation. But Halo 4 totally turned that around, so either way, in-game or pre-rendered, I think its safe to say it will look awsome and I’ll be happy. Although I would probably prefer the Blur ones if I had to choose.
