H5 Dedicated servers becoming more laggy?

Just want know know if anyone else has been experiencing this on the regular?

When Halo first released, it seemed pretty good. You would get little bits of Lag but not terrible game changing stuff. Then after the server crashes before Christmas things seemed to be really off.

Now I want to know your feelings about it, specifically other Aussies, as im not sure if ive just become better at the game, or if it is infact lagging heaps more.

Before, its possible I thought I just missed my shots, but now I know 100% if my aim is on and I land a headshot but it doesn’t register, even with the reticle red. At Onyx, you miss one shot, you die. So my games im playing are really suffering.

I live in a small town, a long way from the Aussie servers, so I know I have connection issues ill always have. But it seems to be getting worse, even my friends are having issues more commonly.
There is less population playing now, so you can’t say it’s server load, but can the servers becoming ‘worn out?’
Does it even work like that?

I have also experienced this, when the December update hit I could barely play the game it was so bad. The game seems to get laggier with every update.

See the dedicated server EU thread, it’s over 120 pages long now. Whether you’re an aussie or a european the issue is the same - we’re playing on US servers for the majority of our matches.

My guess is that the population has dropped since launch, so it’s harder to find games on local servers.

I live in spain and the game was much better in November compared to how it is now.

During Christmas and after problems started appearing and now most of the time my req points dont load until i finish one game, and if i win a new pack i have to turn off the game and put it back on to be able to see it and use it.

Same for me man, I have no boosts and no REQ points first game. They arrive after a while though… I have played a whole Warzone game with ‘receiving data’ when I go to a REQ station, or die and try to equip REQ’s.

Same for me with the Christmas thing, was pretty good up till then.

Have read the EU server thread. I get matched with a lot of Japanese (must be closer to Aus) but it’s normally really late at night when that happens.

The Ausgamers review of Halo 5 said the dedicated servers only come into play when there are enough local players. If your locality are the minority it reverts to peer to peer. This is why I mainly play late at night when everyone is home from work.

P2P like Halo 4?

I KNEW it! I thought something was up. Some days are fine, others like last night were HORRIBLE. Cause I already have a -Yoink- connection, the moment it drops off dedicated, BOOM super lag.

Just sucks my KD takes such a huge hit and I feel like I’m -Yoink- at Halo.

Yea. It’s just a backup though so still seems to try and get a dedicated server game if it can. I just jump around the playlists a bit if I’m running into a lot of peer to peer. There still seems to be a certain amount of region lock but like you said we can still get matched with Asians and that in Australia though.

ya people be skipping around Teleporting and s***

Apparently there’s no p2p, only dedicated servers: link

Well we need to get someone else to review our games here in Australia then. http://www.ausgamers.com/games/halo-5-guardians/review/ “Matchmaking is still handled in the traditional peer-to-peer way – whether in 4v4 Arena modes or 12v12 Warzone – but once there’s enough players, it transitions the match to a dedicated server.”

That article actually states:

> Best of all, every multiplayer thing in Halo 5 takes advantage of Microsoft’s Azure dedicated servers in the best of ways.
>
> Matchmaking is still handled in the traditional peer-to-peer way – whether in 4v4 Arena modes or 12v12 Warzone – but once there’s enough players, it transitions the match to a dedicated server. The result is silky-smooth multiplayer without having to worry about host transitions or laggy players ruining the experience.

My understanding from this is that it selects and matches the players via P2P but the game is played on dedicated servers, so in theory P2P is not in use for actual gameplay…however, we’ve been fed so much -Yoink- and lies that I wouldn’t be at all surprised if P2P was being used. It would actually explain a lot of the issues players are experiencing every day and why some players appear to have a distinct advantage (I’ve even had games where I’ve felt untouchable but the flipside to that is other players are at a disadvantage).

It would also explain -Yoink- like this: >>> -Yoink- <<<

Some straight answers and information from 343i would be useful but they seem incapable of communicating and engaging with the community.

they should implement match search priority features like reach had…best connection, skill, etc

If that is a silky smooth multiplayer without worrying about laggy players I’ll eat my hat.

Rubber banding like that clip Konspiracy posted is probably 1 in 5 games for us Aussies.

We always thought it was that persons connection, but in what strange future gives someone with a bad connection an unfair advantage (you cant shoot them when they teleport around the screen).

What im specifically talking about, is when you KNOW you landed that last headshot, but for some stupid reason it takes another 3-4 OR my personal favourite, you STOP shooting cause you KNOW you got the kill, but they just keep on runnin’ around behind cover.
That’s what I’m saying, before I thought it was just me playing terrible, but as I better at the game now I know it’s not me.
Maybe this would explain everyone’s aiming issues too. Some games I absolutely DOMINATE, even at Onyx level, then others I feel like I should be ranked platinum and I feel the people I play with are thinking ‘how is this dude Onyx!??!’ It’s not all me though, sure we have bad games here and there, but to be so polar opposite one day to the next makes me question this stuff.
Like ive learnt Saturday and Sunday through the day is the WORST (due to internet traffic I bet). Then real late at night through the week is Japanese server time.

Until I see that we are able to manually select which dedicated server we want to play one I will be under the impression that the game defaults to p2p at times

in Titanfall you choose which server you want, you know it’s a dedicated server, it tells you your latency to that server
until we get that I’m chalking up a lot of the nonsense I (and six since we game together) experience to classic lag/host advantage

Well i just had an interesting night playing Halo.

For the first 1.5 hours my connection was EXCELLENT! Probably one of the best nights ive had in a long time, evey shot was registering. Oh man it was so sweet! But then about 11:30pm AEST it started to go down hill FAST. Then finally finishing with a match full of Japanese, where i teleported through the map and a wall, died (many times) and my count down to re-spawn froze at 2 seconds for about 30 second. REALLY surprised i wasn’t kicked.
I am so mad right now!! Such a good night, then ended so badly and to make it worse its all 100% out of my control.

Also Star, i hope you keep playing so we can share the Lag LOLZ. Even though right now i feel like selling my Xbox cause of this -Yoinking!- -Yoink-!!!

What makes it REALLY bad is one of the -Yoink!- guys i was playing against, tea bagged me cause he beat me in a 1v1. I knew he was there and even started pre firing my AR as he came round the corner to get the first hit marker. My aim was right on but he still won. He must have felt real good, so proceeded to -Yoink!- my cold dead corpse. I cant tell you how close i was to smashing my monitor to pieces.

Must feel REALLY good to have such a good connection. I honestly feel that is what separates us ‘casuals’ from the pros.

Japan is a Xbox Live supported country with Microsoft Azure servers so not sure why we get grouped with them. I guess we just get put onto their servers once our servers get too low in population to support games. As previously stated some more detailed information from 343i on how the servers work would be nice.

Makes sense if its P2P not enough people on our servers so reverts to that? Then you can get a random mix of anyone in the world
