H5 Arena Solo - Almost Unplayable

So, I have played my share of Halo games but I’m not exactly a good player. I played Reach a lot online but I had the worst negative KDA. Other than that, I pretty much stuck to the campaigns. With Halo 5 it is different - I have played a lot of Warzone and Social - but it’s getting more and more frustrating for a number of reasons.

  1. People being inactive and leaving. Happens all the time. Someone will just stand in the corner, then it’s 3v4 and that makes a huge difference for a player like me. People do get booted for that after a while or just leave. I don’t know. Or they start playing for a moment and finish with 1 kill and 15 deaths.

  2. Smurfs: Before I say anything, yes, I know why some people do that bla bla bla and there may be good reasons bla bla bla but here’s what I think: People use the smurf accounts to just smash other people. They will play a couple of games and then they will stand around in some games to make the KDA go down again, so that they are matched with randoms who they outmatch. I know that rank is not the same as skill but if someone is Level 2 and the rest of his team no more than Level 8 or so, it is a bit weird how they play as if they spent forever practising on the maps.

  3. Being matched with full fireteams. That is just something that is not fair. I play solo. Always. And the game is also made for that so I shouldn’t have this massive disadvantage. I have no communication with my team, once we start, they will run into the middle of the map and just pick fights they will lose and I will wind up playing it safe only to run into a whole squad who will kill me in a fraction of a second. Or I get ambushed. Or I get flanked. Possibilities are endless if the other team is actually talking to each other.

  4. Connection? I don’t know what kind of issue this is but sometimes I die and I have NO TIME AT ALL to react … it will be like BOOM DEAD! and then it will say that the person who killed me used a magnum. So I’m thinking … how is that possible? It takes me way more than a second to get the five shots out that I need to kill someone, let alone the fact that sometimes you miss. I don’t know what’s up with that but it varies a lot and sometimes it really annoys me. Melee is another story. I go head to head with people all the time. What goes down is that I punch them, then they punch back and I’m dead. And that is not an exaggeration. Sometimes I put one or two shots in them before. They survive. But god forbid some spartan even looks at me, I instantly drop dead, because? I don’t know. The whole statistic about how many shots you need with what kind of weapon seems solid but the reality seems completely random to me.

Anyway, I love Halo and I love the multiplayer but recently I just get matched with full teams who obliterate me and the other smurf-inactive-incompetent-randoms on my team. And that is no fun. There are ways to fix this and I would expect 343 to do that. My KDA is 1.0 … I’m a regular casual player. I’m sure it would be better if I wasn’t outmatched all the time against Achilles-armor-wearing level 149s or surprisingly well-playing and highly adaptive level 2s who apparently just started playing the game.

While all of your points are valid, there are many things a solo player can improve on that can change the outcome of a game (not just your shot, but also map/team awareness). If your allies blindly push then you should try to follow them instead of getting frustrated that they aren’t supporting you.

There are people who solo queue that can reach the top rank which means that it is technically possible and while their win % might be lower than usual (in the 30%s), their CSR still climbs due to their MMR. If you find your progress ranking up has stagnated it may mean you have reached the rank you are meant to have. If you want to increase it further then perhaps you can find a team yourself.

Thanks for your response. Anyway, I don’t think I am “meant to” be on the lowest rank but I don’t bother with the rank that much anyway. I just want to have good games that are fun. And while I’m at the lower end of the skill scale in the game, I still win games and get between 10-20 kills with one-digit deaths, which is fairly good for me. Just goes to show that the team makes a huge difference. Anyway, supporting people who run into death traps is not really my thing but I always try to help and cover my team, even if it means I don’t get kills but rather assists (or nothing). Like I said, it’s about having a good time for me.

Trying to get a team would be a solution but it seems to me that’s not as simple as it sounds. Besides, I quite enjoy the idea of playing with randoms in general. As long as the matching is fair.

Agreed. There are many times where I am the only positive KD on my team and it is super frustrating; usually because the matchmaker has gone past its usual parameters in order to actually make a game. In this case I would only lose 1 CSR and would probably make up for it in my next game but it really is no fun or worth it for either side. Even though you aren’t punished via your CSR, you are still punished mentally.

That’s just the nature of matchmaking with a low population. Heck, I think I was destroying a legit SR 2 account in quick play; I felt bad so I switched to ranked slayer and got absolutely tossed by champs.

Hopefully Infinite will restore the population and we can have some good games soon👍

I hear that. Hoping for that as well. And maybe for a growing number of casual players who stick with it for a while. Would certainly help my cause. Just got out of two games in quick play. First 11-3, second 1-13. Both 4v4 but in the second game there was a level 150 guy who got 38 kills and 3 deaths. You get the picture.
