It’s a large claim but lets look at the fact here.
Halo 4 has sold 9.4 million copies. That’s a massive number considering it is only available on the xbox platform. Other than Blops 2, it had the largest install base of potential multiplayer players.
Halo 4 could not stay in the XBL top TEN.
Can you list a game that had an emphasis on multiplayer, had a player base anywhere near what H4 had that drew so few multiplayer players? Im all ears.
Why are we keeping any mechanics from H4 for H5 343? You created what was argueably the biggest bomb in the history of console MP gaming. Everything that was H4 MP should have been scrapped.

Touche. Though around the Internet I am hearing that Titanfall is struggling to retain a healthy population, though since I am not involved in that community I can’t give concrete numbers. I would wager that if that is true, it reflects how Titanfall still doesn’t differentiate itself from other modern shooters besides it having giant robots.

yeah Titan fall has like max 2k people on daily and that’s on a very good day.

I agree that Halo 4 was a fail. While Halo 4 MP was a lot of fun, but I think it failed in the same way that the campaign did: it didn’t provide an adequate amount of diverse experiences, at least compared to previous Halo games. On top of that the bullet magnetism made the game easier which might help draw in new, younger players but it also makes people lose interest fast. This is ultimately what drove the population down.
I can’t provide a suitable answer to your question but realize that few MP games have a player base near what Halo 4 had.
My main point is here, because (other than the bloody bullet magnetism), every mechanic from Halo 4 was abandoned. Have you been paying attention? Everything was scrapped. AA’s are gone, so are the loadouts, the ordinance, the grenade indicator, de-scope is back, etc. Halo 4 was a one-time thing and they’re obviously taking a totally new approach. Basically the only mechanic that stayed (other than the three main pillars of shooting, grenading, and melee), was sprint. I don’t want to get into an argument about sprint, though, I’ve had enough of those.

Cause Titanfall also failed in diverse experiences
Halo 4 objectively had the least successful matchmaking in Halo’s history. Obviously there are other titles out there that did even worse; Brink springs to mind.
Halo ce sold tons of copies and I could never find a match online.
RIMSHOT!
But seriously yeah H4 didn’t last long. I think H5 feels significantly different and closer to the other Halos that I am cautiously optimistic it will have a longer lasting population.
H4 was FAR from the least successful mp ever. Overall I think H4 was one of the best mp of the entire Halo series. I still enjoy it to this day and still find matches extremely fast in BTB.
Here are some multiplayer games that died almost instantly.

I dont know. Ive never played it. I also cant seem to find a current xbl top 10 list.

Theres still sprint as well as the general movement towards “modernised” FPS mechanics. They swapped some for others.

Since most of you can’t seem to read his post properly, I’ll just emphasize this for him.
Stop bringing up RPGs with tacked on MP as arguments. He’s also making the point that the colossal sales numbers and miniscule online population is the reason why it’s a failure. A player retention of 0.1% is utterly pathetic.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater here…
The bathwater would be the following things that 343 has scrapped from Halo 4 heading into Halo 5.
AA’s (other than thruster, more on that in a minute)
Loadouts
Perks
Weapon Drops
Flinch
There are also good things they have added back and improvements they have made:
Descope
Equal spawns
Power weapons on maps
automatic weapons that don’t totally suck
That’s A LOT of changes, back to more traditional Halo elements. Really the only major holdover from Halo 4 that hasn’t been a core halo element since game 1 is Thruster. And they have made it more of a utility option since you can recover and shoot quickly when using it, and you don’t drop out of first-person when using it.
There are some other things where the jury is still out of course, and we will have to wait and see how they tweak those for the final product but those things were not present in Halo 4 to begin with. MOST of the crap from Halo 4 has already been scrapped, so i’m not even entirely sure what this thread is really about?

Again. I said, with an emphasis on MP. Out of those games I’d say the only ones that had an enphasis on MP were Max Payne and ghost Recon. Even those are a stretch and neither one of them had sales that came anywhere near H4.
