H4 sounds makes my ears bleed

The more times i watch the vids, the more the sound just really begins to kill it for me. The br doesn’t sound like a gun thats firing bullets. WHAT THE HECK is the pistol supposed to sound like? Cause it’s just some kind of clicking noise coupled with what sounds like a sound error garbal. Why is there a sudden “CLUNK” noise when someone gets head shotted. Why is there a “KA-THOOM” noise when someone rides the man cannon? (maybe that was a coincidence? I get the feeling that these sound effects are largely unfinished. I seriously hope so. I didn’t hear any death wailing when people were killed, so i’m assuming it’s not done yet.

I agree, but luckily my mixamp takes care of in-game sounds for me =).

The sounds are good. They sound like something like from Warhammer 40k.

Halo 4 is the first game in the Halo series to pioneer with real gun sounds. All of them have been modified to fit the gun, but they are all authentic rifle/machine gun sounds.

I don’t get how one couldn’t like that over the sound of… well, fictional guns. I really like how each UNSC weapon differs in sound.

The sounds that bother me…

-all human weapons sound like a Transformers hand cannon with the loud high pitched “PEW” after the initial shot.

-we hear some sort of mechanical noise whenever a frag is thrown

That mechanical noise would be the pin getting pulled and then the armor and arm tossing the grenade.

Now, each weapon sounds like a real weapon, so apparently Michael Bay based the sounds of Transformers weapons off of non-fiction weapons. If that’s the case, good for him.

Halo is doing the same thing, and it sounds really good. I really like how the turret sounds in the game-play we’ve seen, and the BR sounds smooth and powerful. I like it.

This. About time someone else sees this too.

When referring to the sniper rifle Frankie said the sound we heard at E3 wasn’t representational of the final product. I assume this holds true for the other sounds we heard from E3 as well.

I like the sounds. Heck, were talking 500 years in the future so some weapons sounding different and unique is fine by me.

the sounds are ok some arnt, i really dont like the sound of the needler but some other weapons are ok, but i cant say much good stuff about the soundtracks yet.

I really dislike the Covenant Carbine sounds. -_-

I agree with you, OP. The sounds are a bit to clicky and in your face. And I haven’t noticed, but you are right. I hear no death cries when someone dies… Some of the guns do sound odd, mostly the BR. I haven’t liked the way it has sound since the first time I heard it. Hopefully 343 is still working on the sound effects.

The sounds are great. Although, they are improving. I di think the BR and DMR need that beefy rifle sound! And the Sniper needs to sound like the sniper from CEA! The Scattershot needs to sound more alien’ish. But altogether; great progress for 343i’s first Halo game.

The br and pistol sound NOTHING like any real gun. The alien weapons sound fine, especially the light rifle, but the unsc weapons (except for the ar) sound like errors, not actual gun fire. There’s a lot of unnecessary clunk and boom in the game over all.

Sorry, but projectile fire does not change with the times. It’s the same way an explosion is not gonna sound like metal being scraped across metal in a 100 years.
There’s also not enough of an echo/ambient after effect to the br shot. I just think the whole thing sounds off and incomplete.

All of the sounds in the game make it feel extremely mechanical. I’m not sure if i like it.

sounds are horrendous in this game, I agree.

it’s mostly the humans weapons I have the problem with.

The sounds are pretty bad so far. Surely they will be polished but right now they are just confusing me.

I agree. The weapons don’t sound right, especially the Sniper. Would be nice to know if it’s still a work in progress.

when you play that abomination called “reach” listen to the subtle mech sound when you initiate sprint. Thats an acceptable level. It sounds robotic, but not clunky and over mechanical. I actually like the way ALL the alien weapons sound. If anything, i think there needs to be more distinction between them. The needler doesn’t sound like…well anything. Just a “pew pew pew pew”. The storm rifle has a nice effect with the over heating, but it’d be nice if it sounded a little bit more like the h3 plasma rifle with it’s alien feel. The plasma pistol sounds completely plain and not really inspired. It’s strange that some weapons sound so “meh” or out right horrible, yet the light rifle has that perfect feeling of “oh snap, we did NOT make this thing! what kind of operation does it have to produce a sound like that?! who knows zomg it’s forerunner!”.

EDIT: Also, I noticed that the shell shock effect is back when grenades land near you. Before the “it’s realistic” argument pops up, remember, we’re wearing a suit that weighs a little over a ton. No spartan should have a feeling of shell shock from a grenade.
