H4 - No blackscreen

The one think that pisses me off when I play Halo over the years is the blackscreen.

Whether it is do to quitters, laggers, switchers, whatever, it just screws up the flow and fun of the game.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

Obtain (as Reach net code kinda does) an average line speed for each player.

During any game, if that line speed drops below X then that player is just DROPPED.

If there is no ‘handshake’ or response from that player, drop them, that means they are lagging (from whatever reason).

Host quitting can be solved by using the 2, 3, or 4 highest average line speeds as Host1, Host2, Host3 etc…to where if any of them quit or ‘anything else’ Host is automatically switched to the next fastest.

If this all fails then the game ends and then no one has to suffer anymore…

lol, I’ve gotten used to it by now, but it does bug me.

As long as we don’t get it in every single game this time. I get black screened every time I play matchmaking…

Yeah I hate how they always get a free kill on me because of blackscreen

Or they could just use DEDICATED SERVERS like any modern games will, instead of relying on 2004 networking.

This^
It would be unfair to instantly kick people.

WTF?

Only the host leaving or switch causes a black screen. There isn’t a black screen when some random player without host leaves…

What they really need to do is make it so people who constantly rage quit do not pull host.

That way when I spawn kill in a party of 8 in BTB there isn’t 6 or more black screens as every rage quitter pulls host before quitting.

I don’t know about dropping, seems a bit harsh, all players will be running packets at different speeds, but using dedicated servers seems practical. And I’ve almost gotten used to blackscreens because of nearly every game of Reach has one, but it’s kind of hard to get used to something so annoying…

perhaps if people built up connection ‘reputations’ they could be selected as host, reputation changes the amount of times you potentially cause a connection loss or black screen (including quitting and disconnecting)this way the person least likely to cause black screen is host, minimising the chance of black screen to as low as it can get.

I don’t really mind the fact that the game will go to black screen, but please conserve the game how it was. I absolutely hate how your killing spree gets reset, I had a 40 kills and 0 deaths in a match and didn’t get the unfrig. Also, your health regens and the weapons respawn. That is unacceptable.

Lol sometimes the second my black screen resets, I am dead.

Man, I thought this was going to be a thread about switching back to a blue screen. Those were the days…

If there will be no black-screens Halo multiplayer could finally achieve perfection.

Yes

You ever played FFA where someone Is manipulating connection to black screen. Just to get power weapons to respawn, this Is why we need dedicated.

You forget the option, that you can fell of the map, if you got a blackscreen. Happened to me twice on Pinnacle and once at Uncaged, as I was in the man-cannon.

it just seems to me that it would be simple enough and the benefits (NO BLACKSCREEN, HOST BOOTING, LAG SWITCHERS) would outweigh the costs (-Yoink!- off a few people for getting dropped because either they are PURPOSELY or accidentally, jeopardizing the integrity of the game).

I don’t mind it. All the weapons respawn even if someone is already holding one.
