H4 needs smaller maps

Look back at the maps considered to be great maps and they all have one thing in common. They were small maps with a large central crossing. Smaller maps just lend to more weapon choices and more diversity. Less time is wasted moving from spawn to target engagement. They are also playable with more game types leading to less repetition. If you only have four maps to choose from because the other 10 are too large, odd, difficult, etc, then that playlist will get old quick. But small to mid size maps cross over well with most playlists.

Yeah, we need some more tight arena based maps.

Similar to Lockout, Midship, Turf, Wizard etc.

Also, I’ll note those maps were not just great Slayer maps for 4v4 but a lot of fun to play Objective on too. Reach lacked both.

I’m a fan of larger vehicle oriented maps. I also like small maps, but large maps with vehicles other than a Mongoose or Ghost are in my opinion better.

I agree my faveourite maps are small. Hopefully Halo 4 has a large variety of maps =, but a lot of small maps like Guardian.

I liked the large maps for vehicular manslaughter too, but it just doesn’t lend to many game types, and those game types are notable slower. And those playlists are notably leaner as well.

The Pit and Beaver Creek.

/ that is all.

How about:

Lots and Lots of small awesome maps

Lots and lots of big epic maps

I’d like a nice, in-between map like High Ground.

I’d prefer a mix of everything. Everyone has different ideas of what a good map is. For me its big maps like Containment or Relic or Terminal. Headlong, Waterworks, Valhalla, Sandtrap, Boneyard… for me BTB is the essence of Halo multiplayer.

I was playing on Guardian on H3 earlier thinking, I love this map, it’s ‘cozy’, the spawns are fair, and most importantly about small maps is that you can get back in the action quickly.

I love big maps too, but I don’t think they were very well executed in Reach, except for Tempest. Even though I like Highlands it is too spread out, as well as Hemorrhage…you have to hike a mile to get back to the action and it just doesn’t flow very well…

4 - Small Maps (1v1 or 2v2 or 4v4)
4 - Midsize (4v4 or 2v2)
4 - Large (8v8)
1 - Forge World

13 multiplayer maps, isn’t to bad, since Halo 2 shipped with 12 (i think)

small maps are just slaughter-zones. Give someone a bazooka grenade plasma launcher type weapons and its beep, beep, beep SPAWN Whathe BOOM Repeat.

Why cant halo 4 have gasp smaller maps AND bigger maps, like every halo before it! gasp!

actually, there aren’t that many in reach before map packs. but you get what im saying,

they need both maps like the pit, high ground and narrows but we also need our maps like valhalla, sand trap

4 BTB Maps
6 Small maps

Of coarse we all want a variety of sizes, My point is that the H4 release needs to focus on more small to mid size maps to start, because they are suitable for more playlists. Then they can release DLC of mid to large size. Reach had no small maps in its original release that wasn’t a remake from H2. And as far as I’m concerned a lot of these extra playlists should be shut down, whats the difference between 5 on 5, 4 on 4 team play, pick one and stick with it.

I miss smaller maps like Warlock and Foundation for awesome multi-team flag games. 4v4v4v4 flag on Warlock anyone? It was awesome… Multi-team now adays is a bunch of rocket hog race.

4 flag > Rocket Hog Race…

How about 4 small Guardian, beaver creak, lockout
4 mid Snowbound, the pit
2 large Valhalla,

I don’t think H4 neccecarily needs more small maps at the cost of less bigger maps. I do think there should be a better balance in the number of similarly scaled maps.

Give us about 4 small maps
About 4 medium sized maps
And 4 big maps (which could easily be part of 4 themed Forge Worlds, or include 1 Forge World map).

Invasion maps could and should also be used in BTB.
And some Firefight maps can also easily be used in Invasion and BTB.

They should make some maps that can be forged into small, medium, and large maps. Kinda like what Battlefield does. Use the kill barriers and slight geometry changes to open/close off areas. This would allow the same map to suit most any taste.

Obviously this probably couldn’t/shouldn’t be done with every map, but a couple should work. I’m not talking about an empty forge world where you build gray theme maps, but a fully finished map that has multiple focal sections. These would also be the perfect Invasion type maps.

Maybe there could be two different small map sections that work on their own really well, or double as red and blue base for the large scale version with open ground in between. The Midsize variant may take place out in the open area between the bases.

The main benefit would be that the same number of maps would ship with the game, but a portion of those maps can work with all player size matches. This would of course have to be done well or not at all though. Just some thoughts from a different point of view.
