We are less than 3 months away from Halo 4 coming out and most likely less than 1 month away from the game going gold and going under certification. Frankie has said numerous times at events, on videos, and the Bulletins that the matchmaking team has been working on what to have at the launch. Since this is the matchmaking forum and we are so close to the release, I thought it would be appropriate to post this sooner than later.
Pay attention to how I do the launch playlists. I expect 343 to do what Bungie did at Reach launch and not have to many playlists at the start. Depending how popular the gametype is determines if it gets its own playlist.
Launch Social/Unranked
Team Slayer-5v5 Slayer. Includes “Classic” slayer, Infinity Slayer, Swat, and Snipers
Team Objective-5v5. Includes CTF, Oddball, Assault, KotH, among others
Rumble Pit-8 man FFA. Includes FFA Slayer and Objective
Team Doubles-2v2 Slayer and Objective
Multi Team-3v3v3v3 or 2v2v2v2 of Slayer and Objective
Big Team Battle-8v8 Slayer and Objective
Competitive/Ranked
Frankie has said there will be a ranking system of some sort. This is implying that it will be used in separate playlists(Hopefully just for the sake of the community)
Ranked Slayer-4v4. Classic Slayer from past Halo titles
Ranked Infinity Slayer-4v4 Infinity Slayer
Ranked Objective-4v4 Objective gametypes
Ranked FFA-6 or 8 man FFA Slayer and Objective
Post Launch
In the next couple of months we will see the laid back/mini games playlists that we all love from past Halo titles among some competitive playlist as well.
As the weeks go on we will see more ranked playlists such as:
Ranked Team Doubles
Squad Battle
MLG
and maybe even
Ranked BTB
A lot of the mini games(Except Action Sack[I think it should be a standalone playlist]) playlists IMO should fall under a “Double EXP” weekend sort of style:
Grifball
Living Dead
Fiesta Slayer/Objective
Flagstravaganza
The list can go on as you can imagine just for Double EXP alone. These may be some of the most popular playlists on Reach but they just don’t feel the same as they did back in Halo 3 where they were rare to see and felt brand new every time you played it.
Feel free to criticize and even have your own Lanch/Post Launch suggestions for matchmaking.
I don’t really want a playlist style like Halo 3’s with the Social and Ranked systems because I just might not touch Ranked if it could mean I could go down in rank at some point. A progression system in my opinion would be best for everything because in Reach I play everything but Arena. I play everything but arena because I know my rank won’t go down if I slip up. Regular playlists that don’t make you go down in rank are perfect.

But I’d just be playing a game and not even touch half of it. I’m all for a ranking system, I just don’t want it to be where I win 5 games and then lose 1 and I go down a rank. I just don’t want to lose a rank in a ranking system that would very hard to try and get to the Specializations and to unlock armor.
There shouldn’t be any ranked or social matches. 343 Industries should keep it like Halo: Reach. The only playlist I see being necessary are:
Team Slayer (4 vs. 4)
Team Squad (6 vs. 6)
Team Objective (5 vs. 5)
Team Skirmish (7 vs. 7)
Big Team Battle (8 vs. 8)
Team DLC (6 vs. 6)

But you don’t have to play the ranked playlists…the exp progression you want will be in all of them though.
The ranked playlists are for the people that want them

Then what’s the point of a Rank and Social Playlists system just have Reach’s system of just regular playlists that everybody plays and then have one Arena playlist for the ranking people.

Because the way Arena was handled and played went so well, right?

Different Company, different game. Things are handled differently and taken care of differently. We just don’t need two differently styled playlist systems.

But we need multiple playlists for the ranking system. it will be pointless just to have one playlist for something like that.

I was being sarcastic. That will start more -Yoink- then “splitting” the community

But ranking isn’t that fun and enjoyable nor is it fun to have it sitting there on your screen collecting dust. I believe not having the Social and Ranked Playlists would work out a lot better than having them because it’s just splitting people up and it would be a lot funner to have everybody on the same playlist systems.
Another thing, were all ready gonna have 343 style playlists and Bungie style playlists in Halo 4 so we’re gonna have to make some sacrifices because I don’t see a ranked and social system working well with a New and Classic playlist system.

Thank you for calling me out, I did no way in any matter say I spoke for the whole Community I’m just stating my opinion in a good conversation on something that probably won’t effect Halo 4.

You’re going to have to explain that more because the way I see it it can work if you put the playlists in the right section.
Playlists like Halo: Reach are fine, everyone gets to play in their most preferred playlist, while not having to choose between ‘ranked and social’. You’re building a career in Halo 4 and you should not be forced to play in a different playlist just because your favourite one isn’t ‘ranked’.

You said ranking isn’t fun as if everyone that played Halo thinks the same way. I think it’s fun and so do thousands of people.
