Halo 4 has potential to be one of is not the best shooter of all time but theres a few things that keep me from playing this game like i did other halo games.
First off while i think the ordinance system is a creative idea, it really just takes away the feeling that previous halo games had. A good shooter is all about giving players the ability to be aware of whats happening in the game. Giving players a random choice of weapons when they reach X kills adds a level of unpredictability that you dont want to see in a competitive shooter.
Next are the non-ordinance gametypes. The weapon spawns in these game types also rotate in no predictable pattern, making map flow feel jumbled and almost purposeless. Without fixed weapon spawns there is no “sniper tower” or “shotgun pit” and theres no place you know for sure you can fall back to for more rifle/nade ammo. Weapon/map control is no more and along with that goes the strategical aspect of this game that other halo games had.
Lastly is the lack of any sort of motivation to play competitively outside of leveling up in an exp-based (essentially time-played based) ranking system. Without any sort of means for skill-comparison, competitive games just will not have the atmosphere that games with such features do. Truth be told, gamers play to win and to master their skill, and stats/leaderboards/skill ranks are what make games competitive and playable for years after their release.
What im asking for isnt much in terms of the work 343 has to put in, and i believe fixing these issues will really make this game feel like halo should and even more. If we can go back to the classic weapon spawn system and get an in-game skill rank/leaderboards/more in-game stats (k/d, w/l, points-per-match) this game will feel so much more competitive again. Please 343i dont just leave your game in the disappointing state its currently in.
